The Vancouver Canucks want to recover after a disappointing season in 2024-25 and will now watch the play-offs. In recent years, the team has done quite a good job in drawing up talent and has added players to their organization that will be useful in the next number of seasons. Many of those set up players will want to make their NHL debut in 2025-26 and can find an established role in the team after their first match.
Tom Willander
The long -awaited debut of Canucks 2023 First round Pick Tom Willander could finally arrive this next season after the former Boston University Terrier one boarding contract With Vancouver during the low season. Willander will most likely start this coming season with the Abbotsford Canucks of the American Hockey League (AHL), where he can be used to more with many of the other prospects of the Canucks. But I would expect that he would be the first defender to call Vancouver when one of their players inevitably runs into an injury. Willander is perhaps an NHL defender, but Vancouver does not have many places available now, so he might have to start his season with Abbotsford.
As soon as he makes his NHL debut, I feel that Willander can have an immediate impact on the Canucks. His all the time at Boston University, he was the team’s quarterback on the Power Play and one of their top -offensive defenders. His attacking skills were shown in full swing with world juniors, because he was one of the most productive of Team Sweden and was the most counted on defenders in all scenarios. As soon as he is placed in the Canucks -Line -up, he will have many opportunities to show his talents in both the attacking and the defensive zones. It will be up to him to prove that he can stay in the large competitions for a long time.
Sawyer Mynio
Sawyer Mynio has finally been eligible to play pro -hockey after ending his Western Hockey League (WHL) career. After being selected by Vancouver in the third round of the NHL design of 2023, he continued to grow his game on Junior levels. He spent last season with the Seattle Thunderbirds and Calgary Hitmen. During his time with those two teams, he recorded 45 points in 59 games as a defender and was part of Calgary’s Run in the WHL play -offs. He also played three games for Canada at World Juniors.

Now Mynio gets the chance to play with Abbotsford in the 2025-26 season and to get his first taste of professional hockey at AHL level. As a competent defender, Mynnio fits well in Abbotsford and he has the chance to improve his game, learn from some of the best prospects of Vancouver. If Mynio continues with the process he is, I could certainly see him during the season if the Canucks need another defender.
Vilmer Alriksson
After being prepared by the Canucks in 2023 from Djurgårdens of the J20 Nationell, Vilmer Alriksson asked to move to North America and become a member of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). Alriksson joined the Guelph Storm in 2023-24 and recorded decent songs with 33 points in 67 games. Not the best season points, but his production was enough to get it Signed by the Canucks. The past season was a bit more difficult because he split the time between Guelph and the Brampon Steelheads, together with dealing with injury problems. He closed his last OHL season with 35 points in 43 games, which improved his total in fewer competitions compared to last season.
Now Alriksson has a big chance for him for his first AHL season to hopefully stay healthy and to have an impact on Abbotsford. Getting the chance to play with great attacking prospects in the Canucks system, such as Arshdep Bains and Ty Mueller will be a big help for Alriksson while starting his pro hockey career. If he can start a good start in the AHL and prove that he belongs there, Vancouver will notice and he can even call him if they get injuries in their forward core.
Vancouver has set up well over the past three seasons, and these potential call-ups are a reflection of this. Injuries have become part of the NHL, and knowing that the Canucks players in the AHL who can play NHL games when needed is a great luxury to have. These players may not have long NHL Carrières, but they can certainly make their NHL debut this season.
