The wraps have come off the Toyota Veloz Hybrid during this year’s Gaikindo Jakarta Auto Week (GJAW). The electrified version of the Perodua Alza twin can be booked in Indonesia at early bird prices (until the end of the year) of 299 million rupiah (RM74k) for the V variant, 335 million rupiah (RM83k) for the Q variant, 350 million rupiah (RM87k) for the Q Modellista and 390 million rupiah (RM97k) for the Q TSS Modellista.
It is the third Toyota hybrid to be produced in Indonesia (after the Innova Zenix and Yaris Cross hybrids) and the cheapest, undercutting the Yaris Cross Hybrid, which starts from 437 million rupiah (RM108k). Several reports mention the same powertrain as the Vios and Yaris Cross hybrids – that is, a 1.5 liter 2NR-VEX four-cylinder engine rated at 91 PS/121 Nm, an electric motor rated at 80 PS/141 Nm, a combined output of 111 PS, an E-CVT and a 0.7 kWh battery.

Indonesian specs haven’t been released yet, but the Modellista variants should include the aggressive body kit you see in these photos, and the TSS in the range-topping Q TSS Modellista clearly stands for Toyota Safety Sense, which should include AEB, blind spot detection, lane departure warning and prevention, rear cross-traffic alert and pedal misoperation control.
Naturally, you’re wondering if this can be offered in Malaysia – as Toyota or as Perodua (both our Veloz and Alza come from the Sungai Choh factory in Perodua). It’s a bit early to say, and maybe it’s less likely for the latter brand, but as we often say: stranger things have happened!
