The C28-generation Nissan Serena e-Power, which was showcased last December, will be launched in the Malaysian market in March this year, said Christopher Tan, managing director of Edaran Tan Chong Motor (ETCM). The price for the C28 Serena is estimated at between RM160,000 and RM180,000. In terms of customer response, ETCM has received 400 bookings for the C28 Serena so far, Tan said.
As indicated by the e-Power suffix, the main change in the latest Serena is the powertrain, an HR14DDe 1.4-liter naturally aspirated inline-three petrol engine that produces 98 hp and 123 Nm. This functions solely as a generator for the 1.77 kWh lithium-ion battery located under the floor between the front seats.
The battery powers a single 163 hp/315 Nm drive motor for the front wheels. Claimed fuel consumption is 18.5 km per liter over the NEDC test cycle. While there are variants of the C28 Serena in Japan with the MR20DD 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, ETCM plans to launch the C28 with the 1.4-litre e-Power setup, and has no plans to return to the 2.0-litre unit for Malaysia, Tan said.
So far, ETCM has revealed specifications for the Serena in a Premium Highway Star trim, with tri-beam LED projector headlights, LED daytime running lights, LED fog lights, black nappa leather upholstery, keyless entry and start with walk-away autolock, six airbags and 16-inch wheels with 205/65R16 tires.

This also gets a driver assistance package as standard, which includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind spot warning, rear cross traffic alert, high beam assist and an all-round view monitor.
Also on display here is the Nissan ProPilot semi-autonomous driving suite, which offers adaptive cruise control, lane centering assistance and blind spot intervention. The latter gently applies steering or braking assistance when attempting to change lanes while a vehicle is detected in the blind spot.
Four exterior colors are offered for the C28 generation Serena, namely Diamond Black, Turquoise Blue, Brilliant White and Dark Metal Grey, with the latter three being two-tone colors with a black roof. This comes standard with a five-year vehicle warranty up to 100,000 km, while the e-Power components (motor, battery, energy management) are covered for eight years or 160,000 km.
It will go on sale in Malaysia from early March this year, with a starting price estimated at between RM160,000 and RM180,000, locally assembled (CKD) in Serendah. More details about the C28 generation Nissan Serena for Malaysia can be found here.
