Love for love (Kansas City Current)
Being arguably one of the best teams to grace the NWSL era, there are several stars to watch at Kansas City Current. Lo’eaau LaBonta, Claire Hutton, Debinha and Hailie Mace are all among the highlights of a dominant campaign this year. Goalkeeper Lorraine was also excellent between the sticks, with no less than 14 clean sheets.
However, the star of the show remains Temwa Chawinga. The Malawi international was almost unplayable on her day, breaking several records in her debut NWSL season last year, followed by another Golden Boot campaign this season. Her ability to find the back of the net has often made the difference for her side. With fifteen goals already in 2025 and three assists, the defense will have to be very alert if they want to stop Chawinga.
Having already secured the NWSL Shield, the 27-year-old is now looking to complete the double.
“My focus is to help the team win the competition,” she said in an exclusive interview with Olympics.com earlier this year.
“We didn’t win the league last season, but the fans supported us a lot. I want to win the league and [back to] the fans for the way they supported us.
“We have to thank them, bring them something as a thank you – we have to work hard as a team to bring something to this city.”
