An 18-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday after a weekend crash in Aurora killed two people and injured three others, including the suspect, the police said.
OLVIN MEMORY CARCAMO-MEZA was arrested on suspicion of two counts of murder of vehicles, according to a press release from the Aurora Police Department.
He has not yet been officially charged, but is expected to appear on Tuesday in the Arapahoe district court for a hearing on charges, according to the court reports.
Carcamo-Meza drove north on the airport boulevard in a black Audi-Sedan at about 2:45 am on Sunday when he ran a red light and hit a white Hyundai Sedan.
Both people in the Hyundai, a 37-year-old woman and a 15-year-old girl, died on the scene of the crash, the police said.
The couple is identified by the office of the Coroner of Arapahoe County.
The police said the crash sent the Audi and Hyundai in a third car: a Toyota put in a bend.
Paramedics took the Toyota driver, Carcamo-Meza and Carcamo-Meza’s non-gannified 16-year-old passenger to the hospital.
The Toyota driver and the teenage passenger of the suspect both had slight injuries, but Carcamo-Meza was seriously injured and stayed in the hospital for a few days, the police said.
Carcamo-Meza was arrested on Wednesday after being released from the hospital, the police said.
The police said speed is being investigated as a factor in the crash, but researchers do not believe that drugs or alcohol were involved.
According to the release, the 18-year-old additional charges could be confronted after the police had ended their investigation.
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers on 720-913-7867. Tipsters can remain anonymous and can be eligible for a reward of a maximum of $ 2,000.
