One Liverpool player was criticized for his ‘completely anonymous’ performance as the Reds were beaten 3-0 at home by Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

Arne Slot’s side suffered a sixth Premier League defeat of the season (50% more than all of last season) as the Garibaldi – 19th in the table before kick-off – came to Anfield on their way to what Wayne Rooney described as a ‘comfortable’ victory.

Prior to today, Alexander Isak had scored in each of his previous four top-flight games against the City Ground, but the Swedish striker did not come close to maintaining that record.

Isak sentenced for ‘anonymous’ display after the defeat at Liverpool

The 26-year-old was restored to the starting XI by Arne Slot and was called on midway through the second half as Liverpool’s head coach desperately tried to engineer a turnaround for the champions.

Laura Hunter provided updates for Air sportslive web commentary, and when Isak was substituted in the 68th minute, she posted: “Robertson and Chiesa are getting ready. Isak’s afternoon is over. He has been completely anonymous again.”

Isak took his chance today to make a statement

After being given the chance to start above Hugo Ekitike today, there was an ideal opportunity for Liverpool club record £125 million to make a statement to Slot and the wider football world. Unfortunately, he called for the Frenchman to be recalled for the match against PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday evening.

Ian Doyle gave the Swede a modest 4/10 in his post-match player ratings for the Liverpool echonoting that the 26-year-old ‘touched the ball once in the opening quarter’ of the match and politely stating that his performance was ‘not great’.

The statistics from today’s match paint a bleak picture for our number 9. Per Bank scorehe lost each of the seven matches he contested, completed six pitiful passes in 68 minutes on the pitch (out of eight attempts), failed to get a shot on target and touched the ball just fifteen times.

Isak hasn’t been helped by his disrupted preparation and subsequent groin injury, but this afternoon he (like Liverpool in general) was simply nowhere near the level we would expect from a player of his quality.

Obviously it would be ridiculous to write him off as a flop so early in his Anfield career, but the Swede needs a big performance soon to allay some of the inevitable criticism that this understated performance will bring.
