The Phoenix Suns came out of season in the 2025 and need considerable patchwork after saying goodbye to people like Bradley Beal, Kevin Durant and Tyus Jones. The Front Office has been active in that area and adds Dillon Brooks, Jalen Green and Mark Williams.
The calm addition that could be overwhelmingly important is Jared Butler – a diamond in the raw potential with unused potential.
Butler, 25, has followed a long and winding path after his current chance with the Suns. Despite winning the 2021 Final Four Most Outstanding Player Award and an NCAA championship, he was a second round concept pick and received a limited playing time with the Utah Jazz.
Now in his fifth team in five years, it is difficult to look at the surface of this story and claim that Butler is an impact player.
2024-25, however, was a career year for Butler, because he flourished with both the Philadelphia 76ers and Washington Wizards. He found his Springschot, emerged as a high -level facilitator and showed the two -way capacity that made him a champion at the Baylor Bears.
For a Suns team that has to replace Jones and to relieve the playing burden of Devin Booker and Green, Butler could be invaluable.
Suns hit gold by signing undervalued point guard Jared Butler
Butler played 60 games in 2024-25 and set a new career high in the process of proof of how limited his opportunities have been. He also played 17.2 minutes per game, which was also a personal record – as well as a chance that he made the best of.
Butler played well with both Philadelphia and Washington and collected averages of 9.0 points, 3.7 assists, 1.8 rebounds, 0.7 steals and 1.0 three -point field goal made at .448/.355/.824.
Those figures may not jump off the page, but they translate into 18.7 points, 7.6 assists, 3.8 rebounds, 1.4 steals and 2.1 three -point field goal per 36 minutes. That is good in accordance with Butler’s career sides of 17.4 points, 7.3 assists, 3.8 rebounds, 1.6 steals and 2.1 three -point field goals per 36.
In other words: Butler’s Silent Ascension with the 76 people and wizards was a direct consequence of an increase in playing time instead of a non -durable turn of fate.
Butler offers a bit of everything in the attack, both with and without the ball in his hands. He can accelerate the floor with reasonable efficiency, creates for teammates with willingness and intention and is able to place points on the board in a relatively dynamic way.
For a Suns team that positions itself to overload its top scorers with the task of playing, Butler can prove to be invaluable.
The obstacle here is that Butler agreed to a non-godded deal and therefore lacked the stability that one would have thought that his game justified. By saying that, Phoenix has every reason to explore his potential while it is the need for reliability at Point Guard Staart.
If Butler gets a fair chance, then there is a realistic opportunity that he can become the exact type of player that the Suns needs in 2025-26.
