Zimbabwe won the second T20i in the Harare Sports Club in Harare on Saturday 6 September against Sri Lanka to keep the three-competition series alive.
Sikandar Raza Won the throw and chose to first bowl in the do-or-die game for the chevrons. The Sri Lankan openers were rejected for scores with one digit. Kamil Mishara was the top scorer for the tourists when he scored a Run-A ball 20.
Nuwanidu Fernando could only manage one point, because Sri Lanka lost four wickets in the PowerPlay. Raza rejected his opposite song, Charith Asalanka, who scored 18 of 23 balls. Kamindu Mendis also fell to Raza for a duck with four balls. Dasun Shanaka was the last hope for Sri Lanka, but he fell 15 out of 21 balls in the 13th.
The island nation lost its last five wickets for only 16 runs to be bundled for 80 in 17.4 overs. Raza was the choice of the bowlers when he finished with brilliant figures of 3/11 in four overs. Brad Evans also arched well and ended with figures from 3/15 in 2.4 overs. Blessing Muzarabani also broke in with a few wickets in what was a sensational bowling performance by the hosts.
In answer, Brian Bennett and Tadiwanashe Marumani, Zimbabwe brought to a Sedatate start and added 20 points. From 20/3, however, the home team slid to 27/3 in the Powerplay. Bennett and Ryan Burl added a 26-run stand-off 23 balls to establish the nerves.
Bennett was eventually fired by Binura Fernando after scoring 19 of 23 balls. Tony Munyonga left in the 12th, while Zimbabwe lost half of their side with 61 points on the board in 11.2 overs.
Burl kept one out by using his experience, while Tashinga Musekiwa took his opportunities. They helped Zimbabwe over the line with an unbeaten 23-run partnership of 18 balls. Burl finished 20* from 22 balls. On the other hand, Musekiwa was not left at 21 of 14 deliveries. Dushantha Chameera took a three-front, but it went in vain.
