In the future, EVs of Zeekr will be assembled locally in the Automotive Hi-Tech Valley (AHTV), Tanjong Malim, Perak. According to Proton, this is that today has launched his new EV factory in his complex at TG Malim. You can consider Proton as the ‘anchor tenant’ of AHTV, who was launched in 2022.
“The partnership of Proton with Zhejiang Gene Holding Ltd (Geely) would also see other premium brands, such as Zeekr, locally assembled within AHTV,” Proton said in a press release. Zeekr is a premium brand GEYY, which is of course the foreign partner of Proton and donor of his SUVs and EVs.
In October 2023, DRB-HICOM and GEYY signed a Masters Cooperation Agreement that explains the underlying principles, the management framework and the mutual commitment to the AHTV project, including specific roles that must be carried out for development and promotion initiatives.
AHTV will attract investments both locally and from abroad, which will propel as an international car gog for NEVs (new energy vehicles, the period of China for electrified vehicles), Drb-Hicom said in a statement then.
“The focus will not only be on the production of cars from different brands, but also on the production of high -technology components and parts for NEVs. This will also expand the possibility of local suppliers to specialize in the production of high -technology,” the company added.
Both DRB-HICOM and GEYY have since signed Mous with Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) and Malaysia Automotive Robotics and IoT Institute (Marii) to work together on the development of AHTV.
Zeekr is currently selling three EVs in Malaysia – the Zeekr 009 luxury SUV, the Zeekr x Crossover and most recently, the Zeekr 7x SUV that competes with the Tesla model Y and BYD Sealion 7.
