The Italian coachbuilder Zagato rarely steps into a project, unless it can make a statement that endures the test of time, and the last project with the German engineering firm Capricorn seems to be exactly that. The two companies prepare an ultra-restricted hypercar that will be unveiled on 10 October in the upcoming Zoute Grand Prix in Belgium.
Built around an analogue driving experience that is designed to put you back in the middle, the car is designed by Zagato in Italy and built by hand by Capricorn in Germany. The official teaser does not give much away, but there is enough detail to set the tone about what is coming. A short clip unveils an ultra-layer-held coupé with a wide intake of the front, pronounced pronounced mirrors mounted with a fender and, in particular, seagull doors. It will be interesting to see if the characteristic Zagato Double-Bubble roof is retained. Only 19 examples will be made and the distribution will only be carried out via the Louyet Group.
Zagato’s history as a coachbuilder for more than a century Must make this project more than a design exercise. Earlier worked with various car manufacturers, including Alfa Romeo, Aston Martin and Lancia, as well as brands such as Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini, Bugatti, Bentley and Rolls-Royce, the Milanese studio left his goal in the Collector Car World.
More recently, it was the Alpine Zagato Agtz Twin-Tail, the BMW 4-series Cabriolet-based Bovensiepen and the Alfa Romeo 8C Doppiacoda, the last two brackish coverage in Villa d’Este, in May. Capricorn, for his part, is tightened a technical pedigree in Formula 1 and Le Mans Prototypes. This upcoming launch also emphasizes how Italian coach builders remain relevant. Italdesign is preparing to breathe new life into the NSX name picture, while Bertone (GB110), Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera (Veloce 12) and Pininfarina (Battista) have turned to build their own cars.
In the meantime, Zagato has stuck to what it does best, by making masterpieces of small volumes in collaboration with established brands, and you will discover what they have in store with this latest Hypercar offer in the coming weeks. View this space.
