TL; DR
- YouTube updates its search filter menu.
- One new filter has been added, two have been removed, and two have been renamed.
- The menu has also been reorganized.
When searching for a video on YouTubeyou can refine the results by opening the search filter menu. On the desktop, you will find the filter menu button at the top right of the screen after you start searching. If you’re on mobile, you’ll need to tap the vertical three dots in the top right corner. If you use these filters frequently, the menu will soon look slightly different.

YouTube has announced that it updates the search filter menu due to public feedback. This update will result in a reorganization of the menu. The platform also plans to add a new filter, while removing and renaming several others.
Starting with the new filter, you will now see an option for ‘Shorts’ under the Type category. This filter allows you to choose whether you want to see Shorts or Long Videos in your results.
Meanwhile, the category “Sort by” and the filter “Number of views” have been renamed. In the future, ‘Sort by’ will become ‘Prioritize’ and ‘View count’ will now be ‘Popularity’.
As for the filters disappearing, you can no longer sort by ‘Last Hour’ or ‘Rating’. YouTube says these filtering options “did not work as expected and had contributed to user complaints.” You may also notice in the image above that the “Upload Date” column has been moved to the center of the menu.
According to YouTube, this change will simplify the menu and make it more intuitive. Ultimately, the goal is to improve the overall search experience.
