Now, here is today’s article:
Pension is like Pete Seeger / The Byrds number, “Turn, turn, turn.”
“There is a season for everything.”
A time to cry and a time to laugh; A time to mourn and a time to dance;
Some of us retire at 70. Others out of 40. But regardless of your retirement age, your pension will change over time.
Sometimes it is literally seasonal. My parents love gardening. Spring until late summer, it is their #1 pension pastime. But their daily schedule undergoes a change in winter. Turn, turn, turn.
What else is changing?
You get older. This is pretty clear to most pensioners. I recently spoke with a customer about the “Go-go, slow-go and no-go” phases of a typical pension. After a trip to Europe they felt a little less “go-go” and more “slow-go” than before
But everyone otherwise gets older“ at. Your grandchildren go from diapers to kindergarten to “te cool for you” to the university and further, all in the period of your retirement. Your own children go from young professionals to married to children to empty litterers. She Change too!

Health rhythms (and surprises) change. Even if you start to feel retirement, your body changes. A wanderer knee will change those daily walks and wave habits. The order of a doctor will shift your diet or exercise. HECK – For some pensioners, the greatest health change is simply more doctor’s appointments that fill your agenda.
Friendships and social circles change. Friends go away and chase their grandchildren behind. Others die. Others surprise you and get closer. Your “people” change over time, and with that new rhythms come from connection or loneliness, if you do not adapt.

Joe-Saul Sey often shares a story about his friend whose goal was to ‘retire’. Decades of hard work and planning, and he let it happen: he retreats to a beautiful house in the remote mountains.
… and within a few months he realized that he had complete itself isolated from all his earlier social circles and could not to wait To undo his choice and go back to civilization.
Finance and markets change. The “4% rule” is only a direct post. Your pension recording strategy will change over time. Markets do not move in a straight line. Inflation, changes in tax legislation, or even only your own spending patterns can change how you approach your money.
Your community and environment will change. Your neighborhood, city or city changes. The coffee shop closes. A new park opens. Neighbors come and go. Or maybe you move yourself – shrink, get closer to family or chase warmer winters.
Our neighbors moved last month. They are ~ 70 or so. They wanted to shrink from their parental home to a smaller house in a Ranch style.

And the new neighbors that have been withdrawn? Also, Pensioners, also approximately ~ 70, move ~ 6 hours north of New Jersey to chase after 3 of their adult children and several grandchildren, who happen to end up in the Rochester suburbs.
Your energy and priorities Change too. Your mileage can vary. At the age of 60 you are ready for adventure. At 70 your routine feels better. At 80 you concentrate on simplicity.
The things you want from retirement will evolve, and that is not bad. The juice that you squeeze out of daily life will also ebb and flows (more ebb than electricity as time passes).

Technology Changes, and I know that sounds small, but it’s huge. Just look: how long do you want that pension is? Would a considerable number fall between 20 and 40 years?
Well, the World Wide Web is 35 years old.
Wifi is ~ 25 years old and became commonplace 20 years ago (at least here in the US).
iPhones are 18 years old.
Simple things such as GPS cards, video calls “Facetime”, streaming TV programs or even SMS messages were only distributed 10 years ago.
Tech continues to change with jumps and boundaries all within a single retirement. Adjusting it can expand your world – or limit it -.

Goal and meaning can change. Some pensioners discover the goal in volunteering, mentoring or religious communities. Others lose steam after the “honeymoon” period of retirement and have to find out again how they find fulfillment.
And again: 20, 30, 40 years is a long time. That fulfillment cycle can turn, turn, turn around and turn it over again. We all know people who have again ‘reinvented’ themselves during their 1920s, 30s and 40s. Do you think this will stop in the 50s, 60s and further?
It can slow down for some people. But it speeds up for others and rarely stops completely.
Regardless of your age or pension plans, the only constant will change.
Turn, turn, turn.
