Hetting your driver from the Fairway is normally not a shot that most of us would try. It is a challenging recording and requires a slightly different set routine. Moreover, I think the course conditions should be drier than normal to let the driver bounce off the ground. Given my normal rocking surface, touching a Fairway driver is not a normal shot, but something that I tried with great success the last men’s evening.
Hitting the driver of the Fairway can be adapted to our attitude. If I set up as a normal driver, I would surpass the ball 99 times of the 100. That is why it was important to put the ball back in my position to first touch the club head. Then it was important to take a small divot after the ball, knowing that I first made contact with the ball. Finally, I had to switch my weight forward like an iron, which would be my follow -up to my goal. The result is a low stinger that runs a rural mile. Here is a great description of how I got my driver off the deck:
While I was setting up for my shot on men’s evening, I was aware of the harsh conditions. This was perfect for my chance to get the ball clean. I have set as described above and concentrated on it. I was 260 meters from the Green and I hoped to make a short chip shot after my rare shot attempt.
I got the ball clean and crispy. I made a small divot after the ball as hoped. My ball no longer came to that 15 feet from the ground when it shot to the flat surface. From where we were, I could not tell exactly where it was to rest, but I knew it was good at the green. While we collected the golf balls of the other players, we noticed that my ball was 3 meters to rest short from the green. It was a fantastic shot that exceeded my expectations. After an easy up and down, we walked away with another birdie for the day.
Having my driver off the deck is not something that I often do or practice. It is a rare shot that succeeded this time. Keep in mind what happened the last time, I think I could try again in similar situations. Have you ever hit a Fairway driver? How did it turn out?
I am a grateful golfer! See you on the links!
