That’s right folks, the greatness of that pun is already known because I’m already a legend, but the journey it took to finally arrive was something. I mean, think about it; Rui actually had to do something very positive and also be very educational and don’t get me wrong, Rui Hachimura He’s not a bad player, he’s very useful. He provides a very adequate service!

But when you land one game-winner straight from a legend sacrificing his own personal 10-point streak for the game-winning assist, we have to let pun history take its course as well. Incidentally, Le Bron James The 10-point streak started on January 6, 2007, just 1,297 games ago. I’m not dating myself, the 90s references do that pretty well, but the amount of years that has been has me feeling existential dread. Cooper Flagg was a month old! Also mandatory for LeBron. How come this guy is so great?

And of course it wasn’t just James and Rui doing some lifting, Austin Reaves also dropped 44 points and 11 assists on the hapless Raptors and continues the trend of being a de facto superstar when Luka or LeBron are not present. That’s 41/5/10 with a 53% field goal percentage in the least four games without Doncic. If you think it’s just a matter of usage if one of the Lakers stars goes down, keep in mind that Reaves is currently, over the entire season, averaging more points, rebounds and assists than Jalen Brunson, Devin Booker, Kevin Durant, Steph Curry and Anthony Edwards.

Here are some other things I’ve noticed over the past few days…

So it looks like the Giannis Antetokounmpo chatting is finally real. Not that there haven’t been a lot of practice sessions over the years, it just feels real this time, not a little, maybe, let’s think what happens if he just wants to create content for the last seven years.

Bucks is ready to honor their generational champion and give him some say in where he ends up. Early rumors have the Knicks and Lakers involved, but I just don’t see how. Knicks are out of pieces after the Bridges and KAT Gambit, so they should probably take on KAT and the Lakers have similar problems, just not enough to pry him away and also a salary match. Unless you want to go wild and get LeBron and/or Austin Reaves involved.

No, the Bulls seem to be a much better fit, but their front office has been known to abandon good ideas and could end up with a discounted Anthony Davis anyway. Spurs would be scary. Same with the Rockets. But I will emphasize patience here; In-season trades of this caliber are quite difficult, and in the off-season that can even be the case when he’s on the road. Where he ends up is hard to say, but of course New York, Miami and both Los Angeles teams will be in the mix along with the Texas teams.

The Chris Paul his retirement tour was short-lived, as the Clippers recently unceremoniously sent him home after giving little on the court and perhaps too much off it. While there seems to be a great discourse among Clippers fans and Paul fans in general, all indicators point to Paul’s behavior losing the locker room and nothing else.

Paul has always had a personality that has sometimes clashed throughout his storied NBA career. Sometimes being one of the greatest point guards ever wasn’t enough. While he undoubtedly provided excellent leadership and productive minutes for Spurs, it was on a team where most, if not all, of the players were half his age. What does Chris Paul have to say that James Harden or Kawhi Leonard or the rest of that veteran group doesn’t know? You might be able to point to the Warriors stint as evidence that Paul can contribute to a similar locker room, but he was washed out a bit, didn’t return, and honestly, do we think the Warriors locker room is some sort of standard NBA team that should try to meet? I think whatever they do, teams should do the opposite, at the very least it would reduce the number of sucker punches thrown, right?

You could applaud Paul here and stand on the hill: How can a man who wants to win do no wrong? But if that hill is an island and you’re the only one standing on it, I think on some level you have to admit that it was probably him and not everyone else. And you don’t have to read my opinion: Chris Paul had tried to make amends for his actions in reports, but they apparently failed to resonate as he remained a source of fear.

On the fantasy side, Paul could be moved on a small deal or released to a team that will need benchguard depth in a few weeks if he’s eligible, but again, we’re talking about a starter who brought 10/8 last year but is now playing 10 minutes at 3/3. Who really cares?

On the other hand, Lawrence Frank was quick to say that Paul was not the cause of the team’s collapse, but that the Clippers have already responded with a win. I’m not going to sit here and imply certain things, but let’s see what happens here. Maybe more trees will be planted, who knows?
