Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jiri Prochazka made a strong case for another title shot with a brutal knockout of Khalil Rountree Jr. at UFC 320 in October. In a back-and-forth battle as long as the fight lasted, Prochazka rallied late to defeat Rountree with a single hook to win his second straight fight.
Prochazka’s performance not only earned him a post-fight bonus from the UFC brass, but also the UFC Honors award for ‘Comeback of the Year’ in 2025. Despite winning the award, Prochazka disputes his victory as a ‘comeback’, calling his performance largely dominant from start to finish.
In the comments referenced above, Prochazka called for a “step up” for his next Octagon appearance. A clash with rising rival Carlos Ulberg is a possibility for Prochazka’s next opponent amid the continued absence of Alex Pereira.
But Prochazka was recently called out on social media with a surprise name, Rountree.
Khalil Rountree Jr. responded to Jiri Prochazka’s recent ‘comeback’ UFC award dispute
In a recent post on InstagramRountree appeared to respond to Prochazka’s comments.
“Rematch? #LetsGoForThat,” Rountree said.
Fight fans weren’t exactly thrilled with Rountree’s call for a rematch after UFC 320.
“You have a cold,” one fan further wrote X.
“The best we can do is Rakic,” said another.
“I deserve a rematch because I was slaughtered by Pereira.”
“Khalil Rountree needs to work with Merab and work on his cardio, lol.”
“No, he had his tries and failed twice now.”
“Wasn’t he knocked out months ago?!?!?!?!”
“I’m here for it! Two great warriors.”
“If you had real stamina and didn’t quit, you’d be fighting for a belt right now.”
“If I see Lopes getting a rematch with Volk, why not make Jiri vs. Rountree 2?”
“No, I like Khalil, but you have to fight whoever is back after that loss.”
