Two weeks ago it seemed that Yoane Wissa to Newcastle was a lock. An apparently all-butsaranded deal, according to some, would finally bring us in our callum Wilson replacement.
In recent days, however, there have been great doubt about whether we can actually bring Wissa to the club, despite how determined he is to make the switch to the northeast.
Firstly, there was Brentford’s sudden £ 60 million appreciation of the 28-year-old with another year on his contract. Then there was Wednesday’s early news that the bees rejected a £ 40 million package deal from us for Wissa.
And now it can get worse for us in our pursuit of the attacker, because Spurs could possibly hijack the deal and hand us a defeat for a ‘big six’ club in the transfer market …
According to Post Craig Hope, Spurs are still in the mix for Yoane Wissa, even though the player prefers a move to St James’ Park.
It has emerged that Spurs is considering offering Richarlison Plus cash to facilitate their aim of Ebereechi Eze, with those partial welfare funds for the North London side to sign Wissa as a replacement of the Brazilian.
It is said that Brentford would also rather go with former manager Thomas Frank, which could mean that they are more willing to satisfy their appreciation from their star player.
For two reasons, however, it is far from simple in that area. 1) Because Arsenal is now looking for the move from Eze to Spurs and 2) Wissa Wil Newcastle!
Despite the interest of Spurs and the preference of Brentford to do business with Frank’s new club, Wissa still has his ‘heart set’ on a switch to Newcastle United.
If we dream of playing in the Champions League, a switch to Spurs would still achieve that. But Wissa, perhaps acknowledged that Isak’s absence opens a door for every striker to come in and the no. 9 place in nail, remains focused on a move to Newcastle.
You should also imagine that the departure of Richarlison from Spurs is of fundamental importance for all the plans they can have. In an essential world cup year, the Brazilian simply cannot afford not to play in the Champions League this season.
Sky Sports’ Keith downu Also notes that Palace is less enthusiastic about anything but a straight cash deal for Eze, despite the player’s own personal preference on the switch to North Londen.
So for Newcastle, although we are doing work after an £ 40 million bid was rejected today, much less is needed on our part to finally secure Wissa’s signature compared to Spurs.
