Arlington, Texas – there was not much to save from the road trip of the Yankees, but there is this: they will at least fly home that still cling to a play -off place with 47 games to go.
If the Rangers had finished a sweep on Wednesday afternoon, they would have jumped the Yankees for the last and last already Wild-Card place.
Instead, the Bullpen from the Yankees was given a late lead and hung for the best life to prevent a Windless Road trip and to remain locked up in the Playoff position, at least for the time being.
David Bednar achieved a five-out save on 42 fields, leaving the draw on second base, to lift the Yankees to a 3-2 victory over the Rangers over Globe Life Field.
Bednar threw the first two batters in the ninth before he allowed a walk and a single, at what point Aaron Boone visited the hill with Camilo Doval (who had thrown on back-to-back days) in the Bullpen. But Boone left Bednar in the game (on 35 throws) and the ex-Pirate rewarded his manager’s faith by beating Adolis Garcia to end it.
Ter Reliëf of Carlos Rodón, Mark Leiter Jr., Tim Hill, Yerry de Los Santos and Bednar combined to record the last 12 outs of a pressure-produced game of the Yankees (61-54) who had to be desperately from Back-to-back games that were spilded by the bullpen, spild.
Paul Goldschmidt had broken a draw in the seventh inning and delivered a pinch hit at home to ward off the rangers (60-56). Goldschmidt, Pinch-Hitting for Austin Wells against Lefty-Reliever Robert Garcia, crushed his second home run in three games of the left, which he has crushed throughout the season, after 31 games without a matches without.
Rodón lasted only five innings and became the seventh straight Yankees starter who failed to record one in the sixth inning Die did not help any shuffling bull pen. The left-handed gave only two points, but distributed six hits and ran four-worth the 15 free passing over his last four starts was.
Leiter, who made his first appearance in a month after he was recorded on the injured list for a left fibular head of stress fracture, illuminated Rodón and used a doubles to get out of the sixth inning.
Hill came up for the seventh and got the first before a single and the interference of a catcher on Ben Rice put a few runners on the base. Hill then eliminated Corey Seaver, at which point Aaron Boone de los Santos on. Marcus Semien ran the right side to load the bases before he let Adolis Garcia fly to escape the threat.
The Rangers first struck in the third inning when former Yankees output Ezequiel Duran (Joey Gallo-trade) led with a double of the left field wall and Sam Haggerty brought him home with a single through the right.
Rodón ran the next batter, Corey Seaver, to flirt with problems before he would let Marcus Semien ground in a large doubles started by Ryan McMahon. Three throws later he was out of the inning and ran on a runner on third base.
The Yankees then took the lead at the top of the fourth with patient at-bats from Jack Leiter. Cody Bellinger went away with a walk and Jasson Domínguez did the same later.
Anthony Volpe, the best friend of Leiter and former teammate of Delbarton, then came up and cropped a single on the left field to bind it.
Volpe and Domínguez then pulled out a double handle with McMahon on the plate, and ex-Yankee Kyle Higashioka’s Worp dragged away to the third, allowing Domínguez to score for the 2-1 lead.
The Yankees had the chance of more, with runners on the corners and one out, but Rangers manager Bruce Bochy became aggressive and pulled the whimsical Leiter for Lefty Hoby Milner, who received two fast outs to end the threat.
Rodón threw a stop in seven pitch in the second half of the fourth, but the Rangers arrived in the fifth to bind the game.
