Yankeees’ Paul Goldschmidt can land on the injured list of straight knee sprain

A seemingly ideal place for Paul Goldschmidt to squeeze Austin Wells against a Lefty Reliever came in the seventh inning and went on Wednesday evening, and Aaron Boone then offered a reason.

Goldschmidt was not available to play because of what the team suffered a low-grade sprain of the right knee while placing a pop-up in error territory the previous night.

After a 4-1 loss for the twins, Boone said that a stint on the injured list is a possibility for the Veteran First Baseeman, but Goldschmidt hopes that the inflammation will disappear in the coming days.

“I felt that I could continue to play, what I did, but I had checked it out today and hopefully we are good to go,” said Goldschmidt. “There is an opportunity, but I don’t think it’s something in the long term. It can even be a short term for a day or two.”

Wells hit Lefty Reliever Kody Fundeburk with a runner in third place for the final in the seventh.

With Giancarlo Stanton who makes his third consecutive start in the right field, a healthy but collapsing Jasson DomĂnguez has essentially become the strange man in the outfield image of Yankees.

DomĂnguez went against the twins on Wednesday with one hit in his previous 19 bates since 2 August.

“Yes, a bit of that. I mean, he is doing well,” Boone said about DomĂnguez for the game. “It is from day to day. I just try to match it as well as possible, and clearly try to do everything we can do to win every day.

“JD is a lot of it. I know it is a few days now that he has not played. It is a small snapshot in a long season. So he could be the most central figure in the next game. He did well, but with our selection situation, such as getting a lot of production in some other places and we have Gotta -Roll.”

With Aaron Judge Togged to DH tasks for the last eight games, Stanton (1-out-4) made his fourth outfield start after he had not put on a glove since 2023.

According to Boone, Judge (0-4) threw back in the Outfield earlier on Wednesday to ‘keep stretching him’, but Boone would not commit himself to a possible return to the right field this weekend in St. Louis.

“I think he has been up to 120 feet or so. At one point we will probably let him go to bases and so throw,” Boone said. “So again, it seems to go well, but no timeline to a target date when it is back.”

Pitchers Ryan Yarbrough (Schuine) and Fernando Cruz (slanted) are planned to start their Minor League Rehab assignments on Thursday for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
