Robert and Jenna Dunn trained the trotting filly Ya Rite Darl (What the hill) has a very slim chance of winning tomorrow’s $25,000 Aldebaran Zeus Southern Trotting Oaks at Ascot Park in Invercargill.

Aware of the weather forecast for Invercargill, regular driver John Dunn pulled the right rein just before the driver declaration deadline and delegated his brother-in-law Tim Williams with the ride.

Williams is probably more used to the fickle southern weather, having worked for Ascot Park coach Wayne Adams for a number of years. He would be familiar with traveling along Findlay Road in a westerly storm.

Ya Rite Darl was sensational in her last start at Addington, leading and clearing by twelve and a half lengths.

“She did a really nice job. We didn’t go on time, but it was a horrible night because it was windy and wet,” John Dunn said.

The little filly showed her class early in her career by winning three of her nine starts as a two-year-old and Dunn says he has noticed improvement since her two-year-old season.

“That trip up north has toughened her up a bit when racing the boys and she’s definitely gotten stronger over time, which is good.”

Tomorrow’s mobile 2200 meters should suit Ya Rite Darl.

“She’s deadly at close range. She’s not overly big, but she runs well and is fast. Every now and then she misses when she’s away from the mobile, but overall she’s been pretty good.”
