Specifications and features

  • Connectivity: BLE v5.4, NFC for Lost Mode on Apple devices
  • Speaker: Built-in piezoelectric buzzer
  • Sensor: accelerometer
  • Battery: Replaceable CR2032 coin cell
  • Battery life: over a year, based on internal testing with average daily use
  • Water and dust resistance: IP67 rating (immersion up to 1 meter of static fresh water for up to 30 minutes)

The Xiaomi Tag connects via Bluetooth Low Energy v5.4 and sends ‘secure’ signals that are detected by nearby devices connected to the respective Find network. These devices anonymously transmit location data to the cloud, allowing users to view the item’s last known location within the compatible app.

The built-in buzzer gives an audible signal when the item is nearby. The accelerometer helps with motion detection and separation alerts.

It works with:

  • Devices with Android 9 or higher via Google Find Hub
  • iPhone and iPad with iOS 14.5 or iPadOS 14.5 or later via Apple Find My
  • Both networks function independently and cannot be used at the same time. Devices on Apple’s network cannot detect a Xiaomi Tag set on Google’s network, and vice versa.

So the main differentiator is dual network support. Most trackers are limited to a single ecosystem. By supporting both Apple Find My and Google Find Hub, Xiaomi is expanding its addressable market.

The device also supports Lost Mode. Users can add contact information and a message. If found, Android users will see a pop-up notification, while Apple users can tap the Tag via NFC to access the owner’s data.

Privacy features include encrypted location transfer and anti-tracking alerts. If an unknown Tag is detected that travels with a user for an extended period of time, the system may notify that person, depending on network support.

Abandoned alerts are supported on Apple Find My. Users can add up to 20 frequent locations to reduce unnecessary notifications.

Availability and pricing details for the Indian market are currently unknown. If Xiaomi announces details, we will keep you informed.
