India consolidates strong position as battle for WTC 2025-2027 intensifies

The win over West Indies significantly changed the World Test Championship rankings, putting India in a strong position early in the 2025-2027 cycle. India now has 52 points from seven matches, with a points percentage (PCT%) of 61.90, which puts the country in third place behind Australia And Sri Lanka. However, their position could still fluctuate depending on the outcome of the ongoing first Test between Pakistan and South Africa in Lahore. If either of these teams win, they will temporarily close to India’s lead.

Meanwhile, a draw would see both sides finish with 33.33% PCT, leaving India comfortably ahead. With two home Tests against South Africa in November, India have the ideal opportunity to strengthen their position in the top two and continue their push for the 2027 finals. The win in Delhi has therefore set the tone for India’s next challenge, maintaining momentum despite tougher competition while keeping an eye on the narrow margins that define WTC success.

Australia remains undefeated as India closes the gap on first place at the 2025-2027 WTC

Australia remains firmly at the top of the WTC standings with 36 points and a perfect 100% PCT, having won all three matches so far. Their next Test assignment begins on November 21 at Perth’s Optus Stadium, which they will host England in the first Ashes Test of this cycle. India’s 61.90% PCT keeps them well within reach, and a strong performance in the upcoming South African series could propel them to top spot if Australia were to drop points later in the season.

Both Pakistan and South Africa are currently at 0.00% PCT after one match each, although that will change based on the Lahore Test result. Bangladesh are in fifth place with 16.67% PCT, while West Indies, after their back-to-back defeats in India, remain winless with 0% PCT. The updated points table reflects an increasing race at the top, with every match and session now carrying WTC implications. For India, maintaining the rhythm in the home conditions before their one-off Test against Afghanistan June next year will be vital for any long-term hopes of qualification.
