Wrexham are set to break the transfer record for a new striker in January, reports Alan Nixon Patreon.

Wrexham’s 2025/26 season is taking shape after a difficult start under manager Phil Parkinson. Going into Sunday’s match against Derby County on the back of three wins, the Dragons sit 10th in the Championship.

And in a bid to secure a fourth promotion in a row, owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac are now prepared to spend big again in the January transfer window, after pouring almost £30 million into last summer’s transfer window.

Nathan Broadhead is the club’s most expensive signing, joining from Ipswich Town for £10 million this summer.

Wrexham are eyeing a £14million striker in the January transfer window

An emerging report from Alan Nixon claims Wrexham are making ‘a record bid for a top European striker’ in January. It is understood the striker, whose identity remains anonymous, is wanted by Premier League clubs and is valued at £14million.

Wrexham are willing to match any offers that come in for the striker and they will even add ‘a big promotional bonus’ to sign him. Nixon says the striker is a ‘rising star’ and the Dragons hope the lure of regular game time will bring him to Wales, suggesting he is a younger player.

Finally, Wrexham are keeping the attacker’s identity secret for now, to avoid a ‘bigger auction for the target’ that could potentially put him out of their reach.

What Phil Parkinson has said about Wrexham’s January transfer plans

Recent weeks have seen the return of midfielder Ollie Rathbone. Parkinson has hailed last year’s Player of the Season as a new signing, with the 29-year-old having already scored three goals in five Championship games since his return.

And Parkinson looks more at his other returning players than new signings. Speaking in late December, Parkinson said The leader: “But now that we’re going into January, if we have people like Rathbone, [Jay] Rodriguez and [Andy] Cannon back, and [Liberato] Poo and [Issa] Kabore all comes back into the group and suddenly the team looks stronger.

“You need a strong team in this division. We’ve gone a bit off the rails in a few areas and whether we add to that or not, we’ll have to wait and see. But I’m more focused on those coming back into the group.”

That said, if there is money available, expect Wrexham to spend it. They have already shown that they will not bank their available capital, but will instead invest it in a rapid rise to the Premier League.

No doubt the signing of a £14m striker this month would massively boost their promotional credentials.
