The stadium in Navi Mumbai will kick-start the season and host the first leg of the tournament. The second leg in Baroda is expected to begin on January 16. According to a Cricbuzz report, Baroda will also host the finale.
While the venue discussions were taking place behind the scenes, the BCCI has not yet sent an official communication to the owners of the five franchises. A formal notice is expected to be passed at the WPL mega auction, which will be held in New Delhi on November 27. The shortlisted venues for WPL 2026 included four cities: Mumbai, Bengaluru, Baroda and Lucknow.
The third edition of the tournament was played this year in February-March. However, this time, the bulk of the tournament will be played in January as the Men’s T20 World Cup, to be held in India and Sri Lanka, will begin in the first week of February.
Additionally, January has been officially agreed as a potential permanent period for the WPL to ensure the tournament’s matches do not clash with matches from other franchise leagues and the ICC Future Tours programme.
Mumbai Indians (2023 and 2025) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (2024) have won the title so far. Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals are the runners-up in all three editions. The list of retained players was recently released by all teams on November 6.
