The build-up to the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 auction has officially begun. All five franchises announced their list of retained players on Thursday, paving the way for the auction scheduled for November 27 in New Delhi.
As per the retention rules, each franchise could retain a maximum of five players, a maximum of three capped Indians and two foreign stars. Teams that retained all five were also required to include at least one uncapped Indian player.
Defending champions Mumbai Indians retained their core group led by captain Harmanpreet Kaur. The World Cup-winning skipper will continue to lead an established side featuring Nat Sciver-Brunt and Hayley Matthews.
Delhi Capitals, who finished second last season, retained their young batting stars Jemimah Rodrigues and Shafali Verma, along with all-rounders Marizanne Kapp and Annabel Sutherland.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru have backed their trusted combination of Smriti Mandhana, Richa Ghosh and Ellyse Perry, while also retaining the in-form Shreyanka Patil.
Gujarat Giants made just two retentions, opting to stick with their overseas pair, captain Beth Mooney and Ashleigh Gardner.
Meanwhile, UP Warriorz opted for just one player and retained promising all-rounder Shweta Sehrawat. With a number of big names released and plenty of auction space remaining, the upcoming event in New Delhi promises to be full of surprises as teams look to rebuild and strengthen their squads for WPL 2026.
