The upcoming edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) will probably be played at the beginning of January 2026, because the tournament will probably be completed before the start of the Men’s 2026 ICC T20 World Cup.
Currently, the Mumbai Indians are the title defender of the WPL, after they have defeated the Capitals in Delhi for the second time in the final. The Mumbai Indians are the most successful franchise with 2 titles, while the Royal Challengers have won Bengaluru women 1 title. The Gujarat Giants and the Up Warriorz are the other teams in the WPL.

The fourth season of the Women’s Premier League, the tournament at franchise level for female cricketers in India, is ready to be held in January 2026. The Times of India has reported that the WPL has been moved from the February window to the month of January.

The tournament was preceded by its completion before the Men’s 2026 ICC T20 World Cup, which is partly organized by India and Sri Lanka. The ICC event is held in the same window as February-March.
“The tournament will probably start on January 6 or January 8, 2026,” a source tells Toi. The tournament that is advanced also means that the WPL auction, which is normally kept in December, can be held this time in November.
WPL has been cited as the reason behind the success of young Indian women
Just before the opening match of the ODI series between India and Australia in the Mullanpur Stadium of the Punjab Cricket Association, the Indian ladies’ captain HarmanPrreet Kaur also greeted the WPL for the way in which Indian young people have recently come through.

Amol Mazumdar Coins WPL as an “integral part” in the progress of players
After the Indian team won their very first T20i series against England on English soil, the head coach, Amol Mazumdar, wrote the performance of India to the domestic tournaments. He said that the WPL played an integral role in the success of Indian female cricketers.
“WPL has been an integral part of the progress of the players. There is no doubt about it. But there are also other tournaments in India, which we really have good. There are so many domestic players play.”
“WPL is only part of the initiative of the BCCI. So I think it’s a happy hunting ground for us, the WPL. But at the same time there are other tournaments that also take the importance,” said Indian ladies team coach Amzumdar.
