There are few things in the world of Pittsburgh Professional Sports seem just as sure as the sight of Sidney Crosby Take the ice in his iconic No. 87 sweater.
Our captain has been equal parts brilliant, dynamic and wonderfully consistent in the course of his 20 seasons with the skating penguins logo.
Despite incidental speculation of the opposite, especially by the Canadian media, it seemed almost in stone that SID would follow in the skating cases of his former landlord, Mario LemieuxAnd retire as a penguin.
Then Sid and his agent, Pat Brissonblew flames of the opposite, unintentionally or otherwise, during recent conversations with TSN Hockey Insider Pierre Lebrun. Especially the wish of a certain legendary hockey market to see Sid Don the legendary Rouge, Blanc et Bleu.
I get it, “said Crosby about the links to the Canadiens.” Trust me, grew up a montreal fan and am not far from there, I understand how passionate they are. You know if it is those experiences or boys with which I played who played there, or play there in the play -offs or 4 countries – all these different things – I understand.
“I remember – I think it was my first or second year in the competition – and I was in Montréal for a CCM thing in June. And they already projected the lines for training camp in September. I had something like that:” This is wild. I’ve never heard anything like that. They are in that way. “
“And I understand why that would come up and things like that (speculation). It doesn’t make it easier if you lose to hear those things. But at the same time, to know that a team like that you want, it’s not the end of the world. It can be worse (he smiled). Yes, I think that’s just part of it.”
When demanding speculation about the triple Stanley Cup champion who moved to another location, Brisson told Lebrun: “It’s always a possibility.”
“Well, it’s a reality,” said the controversial agent. “First of all, he has been so consistent for 20 years. He had a great year last season. He just keeps on going. The comparison is Tom Brady. We hopefully want Sidney to be in the play -offs every year. We want him to win another cup or two. So every year the team for which he plays fails to make the play -offs, creates a lot of speculation.
“In reality he is not becoming younger. We are here to support him. It’s the beginning of the season here. Let’s see how it goes. Hopefully they have a great season and the speculation will disappear.”
It goes without saying that skating is difficult for Crosby for a non-content team. The ultimate competitor, SIDs built for hockey with high deployment. Everyone who looked at his game during the 4 nations of last season, and with a connected wrist/forearm to start, had to be surprised by his game. His leadership and competing, not to say anything about his skills, were of the charts.
In particular, the piece he made to cinch the must-have victory of Canada in Finland speechless. With exactly 60 sign left on the clock, Sid Flatte ex-teammate Mikael Granlund at the red line, then had the presence of mind to hit a short pass Sam Reinhart Before you drive the cookie 100 feet in an empty net.
It is one thing for people over 20, such as the Tkachuk brothers to get physically involved. But a 37-year-old legend? Oh, and Sid’s attitude in the fourth team of Canada, partly as a result of his characteristic greasy game, came along the wall, not to mention extraordinary vision and sense of anticipation.
Has there ever been a complete player in the history of the sport?
I wander.
Unfortunately, he and the pens in this phase of his career are not a particularly good match. Not with the organization in the grip of a retool/rebuilding and POHO/GM Kyle Dub Not special hurry to make the pens competitive again. Youth must and will be served out of necessity, with short -term results a distant side issue.
Although I am not aware of the Dubas timetable, it is almost impossible to present the pens for the Play -offs the last two season of Sid’s contract. A sad state of affairs, indeed.
Not that I insist on this, Lord knows. What if the unthinkable occurs and Sid asks for an exchange? Where would he go?
There would certainly not be a shortage of voorags. Imho, I always thought that Colorado would be the perfect landing site for Sid. The AVs use a familiar, up-tempo, attacking style similar to the pens from the cup era. With SID and colleague Nova Scotian (and Tim Horton’s trainee) Nathan Mackinnon On board the AVS would have an unbeatable 1-2 punch in the middle.
However, the road to a Rocky Mountain High seems to have been blocked by the former islander dweller Brock Nelsonwho linked a three -year -old deal with the AVS this summer.
Montréal is another fierce rumor destination. The Canadiens are an emerging team, loaded with young talent. One can only imagine that Sid leads the children to Stanley Cup Glory.
If a deal were to be closed with the Canadiens, who (or what) could he get in return? Habs GM would Kent Hughes Consider saying goodbye to an emerging young meteor such as Puck-Moving defender Lane Hutson In exchange for a 38-year-old Mt. Rushmore icon with a lot of juice left?
Maybe a steep price to pay, even for Sid.
What about a package including emerging Power Forward and former first overall choice Juraj Slafkovsky And a pull pick or two?
To be honest, I can hardly accommodate a reasonable gamble at Sid’s Worth on the Open Market.
I will borrow from a hit song from the 60s by the Brooklyn Bridge. Leaving the pens to play for a competition is perhaps the best thing there is with SID. But it would really be the worst thing that could happen to us.
