Former India Ladies Captain Jhulan Goswami Recently shared that she is happy after she has had the increase in the World Cup prize pool. The ICC has recently canceled a total prize money of USD 13.88 million. In particular, the winners of the coming tournament will run away with USD 4.48 million.
Goswami suggested that the initiative will give a significant boost to the cricket of women and also noted that the increase in the prize pool will act as a “reassurance” for the parents of budding female cricketers to make their daughters to follow the sport.
“I get goosebumps. [The increased prize money] Is a very good thing. I want to thank the ICC on my side. The way they thought of this, I think the cricket of women will certainly get a lot of boost. And before [budding women cricketers’] Parents is also reassuring that this sport can be played professionally and can be taken ahead. So I think this is great news for cricket for women, and this will certainly motivate all players, “said Goswami, as quoted by the ICC review.
ICC chairman Jay Shah also spoke about the goal behind the move and shed light on the long-term goal of the board.
“This announcement marks a determining milestone in the journey of women’s cricket. This four -time increase in prize money is a milestone for women’s cricket and reflects our clear dedication to growth in the long term. Our message is simple: women’s cricketers must know that they will be treated on the same basis,” added Shah.
The winners and second place receive 4.48 million and USD 2.24 million respectively. The semi-finalists earn USD 1.12 million, while every victory guarantees USD 34,314 in the phase of the group stage. USD 250,000 has been assigned if the guaranteed amount per team. The World Cup World Cup 2025 is planned to start on September 30.
