Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur feels the team is ready to take on the challenge of the World Cup finals. India will take on South Africa in the all-important top-flight match of the 2025 Women’s World Cup in Navi Mumbai on Sunday, November 2.

Harmanpreet also reflected on the importance of enjoying the moment and focusing on achieving small goals rather than fixating on executing bigger goals and leading the way.

“I think the most important thing is that we have to enjoy this because there is nothing bigger than this in our lives as a cricketer and as a captain. So our focus is on enjoying this moment and keep taking small goals that we have to achieve as a team rather than coming up with bigger goals because you can achieve bigger goals if you achieve the small goals,” Harmanpreet said as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

Harmanpreet also touched on the pain of losing the finals of the same tournament in 2005 and 2017. She underlined the importance of standing together as a unit on the big day.

“We know quite well what it feels like after a defeat [a World Cup final]. We are really looking forward to the feeling of winning a final. Hopefully tomorrow will be a special day for us. We have worked very hard and now it is about getting everything together tomorrow,” she added.

The batting all-rounder opened up about the environment in and around the dressing room. She admitted that the team had been rehearsing their plans for the mega event for the past few years.

“The entire team is charged up, we are there for each other and praying for each other. That shows how close this team is and how ready we are for this match. Now it is just about giving your best, all the strategies and plans have taken shape over the last two years. We had planned for a home World Cup, what kind of conditions we would get, so know that it is just about giving your 100%,” Harmanpreet concluded.

India qualified for the semi-finals of the competition by gaining seven points from as many matches. They created history in the semi-final by beating Australia in what was a record chase in the women’s ODIs.

South Africa met India already in the league stage, when the result had gone in favor of the Laura Wolvaardt-led unit, who won with three wickets and seven balls to spare. The Women in Blue will be eager to settle the score.
