Mercedes Team Principal Toto Wolff believes that Formula 1 will miss his former opposite song at Red Bull, Christian Horner, whom he described as “one of the main cast” of personalities in sport.
Horner (left, above, with wolff) was removed from his responsibilities as a team head and CEO just over two weeks ago, with the Belgian Grand Prix this weekend the first race in the history of Red Bull when he was not in charge of the team. Wolff often crashed with Horner while Mercedes and Red Bull fought on the right track, but says that the character of his former rival will be missed.
‘In a sense, yes [I will miss him]He was one of the main cast, “Wolff told Sky Sports.” First of all, I don’t think he’s gone forever. I think he pops up in a kind of other faction. I have to be careful. He could fluctuate in the FIA and then I am really in the S ** t. You never know!
“He was someone who was controversial, who was polarizing … That was good from the entertainment factor, and from that perspective he will be clearly missed. His track record speaks for himself.
“No [I’ve not contacted him]not yet. I thought it was not suitable for the time being, but I will certainly do that. ‘
Wolff also noticed that his discussions with Max Verstappen about a possible move to Mercedes did not play a role in the resignation of Horner in the future, because he pointed to interest in the longer term, even if the Dutchman stays with Red Bull before 2026.
“No. I think there is much more in the background that we probably don’t know with Red Bull The Mothership and the whole constellation,” he said. “Taking care of drivers, in my position as a team head of Mercedes that I have to discover, I have to investigate what Max is going to do in the coming years – not just next year.
“I think drivers will always look for the fastest car. Much more than all monetary stimuli, it is about being in the fastest car and to analyze that. It is what Max and everyone else will always do.”
