Zak Brown says that McLaren will probably sit down with Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris to understand how the drivers want the team to deal with the outcome of their championship struggle.

Piastri leads Norris with only nine points during the break in the middle season, with second placed Norris 88 points free from Max Verstappen to go with 10 races. Brown acknowledges that it is likely that one of the two McLaren drivers will take the title and says that the team is planning to discuss how that scenario is being treated, given that one driver will miss.

“It’s interesting, because in Silverstone we were of course extremely happy for Lando and disappointed for Oscar,” said Brown. “So we didn’t have that conversation because the championship is far away, but in the end you will end up in a situation where I think you should actually sit with the drivers.

“If we are in a situation where it comes to the two of them – and I say” because we still think that others are in the championship – I hope that after a few races, I can just say that it looks more confidence that it will be our two boys. We are not after your life. Do you want to be able to handle that? “

“We actually sit down and go:” Do you want us to jump up and down and celebrate that this man has won? ” So we are fully aware and sensitive to how you celebrate that situation?

“That is the way we think. It comes back to thinking of our people. Silverstone was the same. I just have to break some ice with Oscar. He was clearly upset, [which was] understandable. And I tend to get – what you will all surprise – some things on social media from fans.

“It was as if we were 17th and 18th, I was harassed. We were first and second (at Silverstone) and I am still harassed by the different fan basses!

“I got one note in particular, which was pretty off the charts. And so I’m walking with oscar to the fan zone. And I was like, ‘dude, you did to send me this note’. Because it was a pretty aggressive note from oscar. Right, Good, We’re just starting to child of break the ice.

“I also think that I was once a driver, I understand very well that Oscar will be upset. So just give him a little space. I am a believer in dealing with things at the moment, if you can repair it at the moment. Or if it is something that you cannot solve at the moment, maybe you should just let it cool and deal with it on Monday or Tuesday.

“Whether it has happened to the driver or a strategy. And I think you have seen over the years, or James Hunt is that a marshal strikes … can’t do anything about it, so maybe we let everyone fall the temperature.

“I always try to break the ice, a bit a bit around with the drivers. So when I got the chuckle from Oscar, I had something like good, good, good, we are in the calming phase. It is as if you manage a turbo racing car. You come in, you don’t get off the turbos here.

“But I have thought about the” How do you deal with the winner and the loser? “, If you want. And that’s just a conversation we have with the drivers and going,” How would you like us to worn ourselves? ” Because we are very attentive about that approach “

Given how close the two are currently in the rankings, Brown believes that the title race can be determined by factors outside the control of the drivers, because he believes that their performance levels are almost identical.

“I think it will be on the implementation, because it is clear from a pace point of view that there is nothing in it,” he said.

“So I think it will come down to the consistency of the performance, whether it could amount to happiness. Again, safety, a man is being swept away by someone else on the track, because they seem to be pretty equal.”
