Their Ryder Cup adventures were frightening and screamingly funny. Which version of the LIV teammates will we get on the cup this year? Without a doubt both.
The scene: About the range at Dallas’ Maridoe GC, an episode of an episode of Golf is ‘warming up’. (The interview is condensed for clarity; you can view the whole thing below.
Dylan Dethier: You went to the gym this morning. Is it something that is always part of your routine?
Tyrrell Hatton: Absolutely not. As I got older and stiffer and thicker, I had to do a little more in the gym to try to prepare the rig.
DD: Jon, do you remember that you met Tyrrell? Have you always been able to get along well?
Jon Rahm: I don’t know if we had ever spent too much time together for the Whistling Straits Ryder Cup [in 2021]. We both played [the 2018 Cup in] Paris, but we were both fairly quiet that week. Wistling, however, we played together, so that is a bit the start of everything. One of the things that are getting along is that we tend to have similar reactions to the course.
DD: say more about that.
E: I never understand why he swears in English. He would probably get away with it, probably, if he just swear in Spanish.
>>>
DD: How does it work when you play together? Do your fires animate? Is there a calmness that starts?
Jr: To be honest, when I play with someone who might be fired a little more on the race – not only Tyrrell, but everyone – I laugh because I see myself in it.
DD: Tyrrell, how is Jon away from the course?
E: Well, he looks scary, right? But he is just a big teddy bear.
Jr: Why do people say I look scary?
E: [Laughing] It probably has something to do with the fact that you are finished – a unit and as six feet three. If you are a hobbit of five feet eight? Honored.
I am irrational in my mind, “says Rahm,” although my mouth might say other things. “
DD: And Jon, what about Tyrrell?
Jr: Tyrrell is one of the funniest people you’ll ever meet. He doesn’t like to do it, but I think he should be sustained for one of our practical rounds, because every compilation you’ve seen from him say that funny things is mild compared to what we usually hear.
E: I cannot confirm or deny.
DD: Tyrrell, when did you get so good in Golf for the first time?
E: That is a strange question. I don’t think I’m [so good]. What does [comedian] Micky Flanagan says? Positivity decreases you.
DD: Jon, do you feel the same?
Jr: I am irrational in my mind; Always hope for the best at the next admission in every situation. Although my mouth may say other things, I believe it firmly. But the number of times I will say in Spanish: “If you are going to play like that, go home, what do you do in wasting your time,” I know internally that I just try to shoot myself, to say, okay, you can do this.
DD: Tyrrell, I know you don’t think you’re very good at Golf, but what do you think you’ve gotten better over the years?
E: I would say I remained pretty consistent. I never really tried to change my swing; The positions are still almost the same. I don’t really look at statistics, but I think that iron game has always been pretty solid and in general has been a force, so I think if I am losing those two, I am pretty f —.
DD: Jon, what is your favorite part of Golf?
Jr: I think the chase. It’s a strange game. We all try to chase perfection in the most imperfect game there is. You try to miss better than the next man. You can count on one hand how many perfect photos you are in a day, maybe in a week. For a game that goes completely to miss less, it is just that chase to try to sort things out and get better, and new things, new feeling. It’s just a sensation for me.
DD: Tyrrell, do you like golf?
E: I like elements. Like, everyone here is a very competitive person. You should never lose that, but I think it is sometimes difficult to go out and practice. I think if you like it, it is easy to do. If it feels like a chore to hit balls when you have free time – it simply depends on what state of mind you are in it. The longer I have played, it certainly went up and down.

DD: What is the best golf shot you have ever hit in your life?
E: Best golf shot? One that I sometimes go back to is actually a 5-iron that I hit when I and Jon played together while whistling Straits, on the 18th on Friday to a pin with the back.
Jr: I thought you would say Rome. On the 15th hole on Friday morning I placed him in a fairway bunker and he got away from an incredible shot. He comes out of the bunker and he says, “Mate, I was terrified. I could only think of the full or it against the lip knives.”
DD: Are you hard for Jon when he is your partner?
E: No. Look at the size of him!
DD: Tyrrell, what’s something about Jon’s game that you admire?
E: I think that if we are messing around the chipping green, we are as big children, just try to get as much as possible. That is one thing that impresses me with Jon – the series of shots around the green and the different spins he can do on it. I can turn it a good amount, but it has that cut spider. He gets out of bunkers and so on, and I am: “I don’t have that in the bag.”
Jr: That is a big positive for both of us. We are like two 12-year-olds on Chipping-Groen. You will never see giggles of two pros again, ever. It is the craziest. [At the LIV Golf event] In Jeddah we made a divot eight feet long, three feet wide. Thirty meters in the wind so that you could turn it to the maximum.
E: We got sand from the bunker, sprinkled it on the floor, got into wind, and this one [shots] tore back, like, 30 feet.
Jr: We screamed. We got so many looks from everyone that it was unreal. You should be professional, but I always believe there is time for fun. That was nice.
