I spent an interesting Saturday afternoon on the sofa watching Manchester City gift the title to Arsenal, while it all opened up for Newcastle United.
I couldn’t believe how weak Manchester City were in the early kick-off.
Pep Guardiola and his players give Manchester United all three points.
It means Arsenal have certainly already secured the Premier League title as they will be nine points clear of Man City if/when they win relegation against Forest in the late kick-off.
I must also say that if Manchester City play like this in the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final, it is not impossible for Eddie Howe’s side to turn the tide. Newcastle were so unlucky in the first leg and absolutely did not deserve to lose.
Anyway, back to the Premier League matches on Saturday and here’s how the matches played out this afternoon…
Man U 2 Man City 0
Chelsea2Brentford0
Leeds 1 Fulham 0
Liverpool1Burley1
Sunderland 2 Crystal Palace 1
Tottenham 1Westham 2
What this has also done is simply confirm how many things have happened for Newcastle United in the league.
A complete transformation in Premier League fortunes if United can win at Molineux on Sunday.
That would give Eddie Howe’s side the full 12 points from their last four PL games, moving them up to fifth in the table and just one point behind Liverpool, who currently sit fourth.
If Newcastle beat Wolves it would mean they had won in their last four Premier League games:
Eight points over Liverpool (four draws in their last four PL matches)
Nine points over Manchester City (three draws and one defeat in their last four PL matches)
Seven points over Chelsea (one win, two draws and one defeat in their last four PL matches)
Six points over Man U (one win and three draws in their last four PL matches)
As I said before, this shows how quickly things can change in the Premier League when you put a string of wins together.
A win at Molineux would be huge for Eddie Howe and his Newcastle United players. I think they will certainly make it four in a row and be in such a strong position to qualify for Champions League football for the third time in four seasons.
