Wirtz admits Liverpool could not stop Fulham’s miracle goal

Florian Wirtz has admitted Fulham’s late equalizer against Liverpool was a goal that no goalkeeper could save.

Liverpool’s hopes of a top-four finish were dealt a blow after Harrison Reed scored a stunning stoppage-time equalizer for Fulham at Craven Cottage.

After Harry Wilson and Wirtz exchanged goals, Liverpool appeared to have secured victory when Cody Gakpo put the Reds ahead in stoppage time.

However, a miraculous goal from substitute Reed ensured that the win was shared, with the midfielder firing into the top corner from distance.

Wirtz said Liverpool were disappointed after a second straight Premier League draw but admitted little could be done to stop Reed’s incredible effort.

“Not satisfied at all. We need points and we wanted three points today. We know there is no easy game in this competition,” Wirtz told Sky Sports.

“The intensity we brought to the pitch in the second half was much better. We didn’t put them under good pressure in the first half, but the second half was much better.”

“I was sure it was offside so I didn’t even celebrate. I was happy to score, but I preferred to get the three points.

“There’s nothing to say about the goal. It was unbelievable. You can’t save that ball. Normally it doesn’t go in like that. The previous actions could have been better, I’m not sure. It was a throw-in, so we have to be better.”

“We are in a difficult situation again because we have drawn twice. This is not what we want, we want more. We have to get better, but it is still a process.”
