The Winter Derby has emerged as a potential target for Shader following his runaway win at Kempton.
John and Thady Gosden’s four-year-old won twice at the all-weather in September last year, but that was not enough to prevent him being castrated in the off-season.
He finished third on his return to action at Haydock in May, but a subsequent setback kept him from a scheduled appearance at Royal Ascot the following month and he was not seen in action again until contesting the Listed Floodlit Stakes.
Shader could hardly have been more impressive in beating a proven high-class performer in West Wind Blows by nine lengths and the connections are keen to make up for lost time in the coming months.
Barry Mahon, European racing manager for owners Juddmonte, said: “He looked really good last year and won a few races and we kept him in training for the mile and a half handicap at Royal Ascot (Duke of Edinburgh Stakes) and unfortunately on the morning of statements he suffered a minor injury which has caused him to miss most of the season.
“He’s a beautiful horse, he was obviously very impressive recently and seems to have improved again, so we will now have some fun with him over the winter and aim for something like the Winter Derby.
“I’m not sure there’s much for him on the international stage, but I think there’s a listed all-weather race in December so we can look at that.
“He is a fresh horse and lightly ridden, so we can keep him rolling through the winter.”
