A completely unusual final can be somewhat unusual during the ATP tour, but it is nothing special for a week for a week prior to a Grand Slam.
With the US Open about 24 hours away, World No. 92 Botic van de Zandschulp and World No. 94 Marton Fucsovics will fight for the Winston-Salem open title on Saturday afternoon. This marks their fourth meeting, in which Van de Zandschulp leads the head-to-head series 2-1. Fucsovics, however, won their only earlier outdoor Hard-Court meeting via a 6-3, 7-6 (4) decision during the Adelaide Tournament 2022.
It has been a mainly routine week at the office for Fucsovics. The 33-year-old Hungarian went on to the semi-final with victories on Hugo Gaston, Tallon Griekspoor, Roberto Bautista Agut and Jaume Munar before he received a walkover from Sebastian Korda. Only Greek Spoor managed to take a set, and no one else even forced a tiebreaker.

Van de Zandschulp has already played a trio of three hunts against Adam Walton, Sebastian Baez and Bu Yunchaokete, who returns twice from a set. The Dutchman also removed Matteo Arnaldi and Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in straight tower.
While Fucsovics is a solid 2-2 lifespan in ATP Finals, Van de Zandschulp is still looking for his first title after twice the second place in Munich in Munich (2022 and 2023). His loss for Holger Rune Two years ago was one of the biggest collapses in the ATP Tour History.
Fucsovics is the more equipped of the two and he absolutely has the mental lead in this kind of situation, so he should have the lead on Saturday.
