Winner of Charity Horse Race in Goodwood celebrates ‘Best Day’

Sophie Forsyth raced against 11 other women at the Glorious Goodwood Festival this year

An insurance insurer said that winning an all-women Charity Horse Race at the Glorious Goodwood Festival had been the “best day” of her life.

Sophie Forsyth was one of the 12 women to participate in the Markel Magnolia Cup on Goodwood Racecourse in Chichester, West Sussex on Thursday.

The race, with all starting riders, raised money for the Lehar van de King’s Trust International project.

Mrs. Forsyth said, “It’s incredible. I dreamed of this.”

She added: “I am 29 and I will be 30 in August, but this is the best day of my life.

“I was in full concentration from the start and thought,” What is the next step, do nothing wrong “. I am now exhausted.”

Trainer Ed de Giles, who supplied Woodcote Girl – the horse driven by the racing winner at Qatar Goodwood Festival – said Mrs. Forsyth drove him “brilliant”.

The other amateur drivers were a police officer, an artist, a social media influencer and Lois Logan, an emerging show jumper and daughter of TV gabby Logan and former rugby player Kenny Logan.

Mrs. Logan, who was not planted on spirit of ecstasy, said: “It was so fast and such a sensation. The horse was incredible and put such a fight against strong opposition.”

Her mother, Gabby Logan, added: “It’s so fast and likes to be a sprinter. But all those 4:40 hours and the months of physical training have been worth it.

“It is such a different style of driving than she grew up. She loved it.”

The Magnolia Cup has raised more than £ 2.7 million since its foundation in 2011.

This year’s proceeds go to Project Lehar, an initiative that offers courses for vocational training, entrepreneurship and life skills for girls and young women with low -income backgrounds in the Indian States Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.
