William Munny leaves Morgiana with minor setback | At The Races

William Munny will miss his scheduled clash with State Man in the Unibet Morgiana Hurdle due to a minor injury.

The runner-up in the Supreme Novices Hurdle, owned and trained by Barry Connell, looked to be a real contender against the multiple Grade One winner of Willie Mullins.

Although he is yet to get the chance to test himself against the best, Connell is confident he will be fit and well by Christmas in Leopardstown.

“He’s had a bit of a setback and with the race just 10 days away he won’t make it – but we’ll have him back for Christmas,” said Connell.

“We kept him in the hurdles because we thought it was quite an open picture this year, the Champion Hurdle, and he is a very good hurdle jumper, very smooth.

“In his early days he was too keen because they weren’t going fast enough for him, but when he ran at Punchestown and in the Supreme in better races where they galloped quite a bit, he settled in and his jump was excellent.

“The New Lion is favorite for the Champion Hurdle and he is only 3lb higher than us and returns in the trip. Two Grade One winners then emerged from the Supreme in Salvator Mundi and Irancy.

“I think this is probably the right way to go. We haven’t jumped fences with him much, but I don’t think that would be a problem either.

“It’s just a shame that we can’t complete the preparation, but he still has the rest of the season so it will be fine.”
