Will Jacks enjoys his cricket again and embraces the mantra of English head coach Brendon McCullum completely to have fun.
Jacks was fell halfway through the T20 World Cup of England and then went out of the team for a disappointing Champions Trophy campaign at the beginning of 2025.
Since then, England-test chief has received the White-Ball-Jackels and Jacks, who was immediately recalled for the West Indies series in the summer, has taken over his most important message to first enjoy his cricket with runs on the international stage, together with for Surrey and Oval Invincibles.
“He is a very good communicator and gives a lot of confidence in the team,” Jacks said about McCullum.
“In addition to (Harry) Brooky, they worked very well together in that series and we had a lot of fun.
“It is clear that the performances went well and I think that has to do with how we approached the game of the field. Yes, I would like to spend more time in that environment and hopefully I can really quickly.
“When I was fell through England to New Year’s time around Christmas, I was actually peace with the decision.
“It took a little weight of my shoulders and since then I have just tried to find the pleasure in the game, play with freedom and enjoy playing with my friends, what I like to do at Surrey, here for Invincibles and then in England are some of my best friends there.
“I just really enjoyed my cricket this summer and that has led to a number of good versions.”

Sparkling
The figures show a player at the top of his game with 504 runs on an average of 50.40 in the recent Vitality Blast, including a sparkling 59-ball century against Sussex and 119 in a district championship with Durham.
Before those striking versions, Jacks quickly adapt to a different role in a different role among old friend and England White-Ball Captain Brook van Batting on seven in the 3-0 T20 and ODI wins over the West Indies.
It means that Jacks has been opened in recent months for Surrey in the Vitality Blast, beaten on four in red ball cricket and now dropped the order for England.
But Jacks insisted: “It has been very smooth. I think I am in a stage in my career where I understand my game better than ever and I approach the game in a positive mindset and not looking for things.
“Every day is a learning curve and the series at number seven was new, but I have the feeling that I now have the temperament and the game to support it.
“It’s something I keep working on and I look forward to the next occasion.”
Man for all seasons
A 24-ball innings of 39 against the West Indies was followed by a patient 49 in a successful run-string pursuit to show the ability of jackets to be a man for all seasons.
The next focus is that the Hundred and Jacks hit 61 on Saturday against Manchester Originals, but the 26-year-old is not thinking of a place in the McCullum team in the T20 World Cup team at the beginning of 2026.
“To be honest no, I am not thinking about something like that,” Jacks added.
“I just go Game by Game and try to have fun. What will happen in a year has nothing to do with what I will do tomorrow, so I think that’s the best way to look at it.”
