King’s has announced Race Bennett as the next head coach for men’s hockey.

Bennett, who takes over for Tom Seravalli, who resigned in August, will be the third full-time head coach of the program in the history of the young program and started his duties on 4 September for the 2025-26 season.

“We are very happy to announce that Race Bennett will lead our ice hockey program for men to an exciting new chapter at King’s,” said King’s executive director of athletics and recreation Andy Orlowski in a statement. “Race comes from a legendary hockey deviation where coaching and leadership are a second nature (his father Rick coached earlier at Union and played at Providence). His deep understanding of the game, combined with his ruthless drive and passion, make him the ideal person to lead our team ahead.”

Bennett comes from a recent Stint in nearby Wilkes, where during the 2024-25 season he served as an assistant in which the colonels approaches the title of the regular season of Mac Claimen, a 17-8-2 general record and in the top 20 rankings in NCAA Division III during the season, as high as 11th National. He was in charge of special teams, including the third -ranked Power Play in the nation, and helped to promote team culture that was included, competitive and productive.

Bennett played a major role in recruiting potential student athletes, developing and implementing daily practices. He also assisted with the reconnaissance report, compliance and budgeting and travel logistics.

“I am really honored to become the next head coach of the king’s ice hockey program,” said Bennett. “I want to thank Executive Director Athletics and Recreation Andy Orlowski, Vice-President of Student Affairs Dr. McShea, and the entire athletic department for this incredible opportunity. King’s College has a strong tradition of academic and athletic excellence, and I am enthusiastic to build on that foundation.”

Prior to his time in Wilkes-Barre, Bennett has been working at Paul Vincent Hockey since 2017 as a main professional, colleague and youth instructor, leading group sessions for athletes aged 5-25 and of various group sizes of 10-30 participants. He also had Stints with the Albany Academies since 2023, and Boone Bennett Hockey as owner since 2024 while completing an internship at Michael Donoghue and the Florida Panthers in 2017.

“He brings an infectious energy and a practical approach that resonates in the dressing room and beyond,” said Orlowski. “Race will be a steady, inspiring presence in the life of our players, on and next to the ice. The future of men’s ice hockey at King’s has never looked clearer and we can’t wait to see how far this program can go under his leadership.”

Bennett graduated in 2023 from Colorado State with a diploma in interdisciplinary free arts and a minor in business and spent a season in the men’s hockey team.
