The Minnesota Wild may not be done making a splash this season, and one analyst/insider thinks general manager Bill Guerin could target the Pittsburgh Penguins.
By suggesting the Penguins are in a tough spot due to their position in the standings and their new ownership, GM Kyle Dubas is walking a good line despite having several key pieces he could trade for a solid return. Among them is Evgeni Malkin.
Malkin might be the one the Wild are looking at.
Sportsnet’s Nick Kypreos writes:
“There are teams that would love to land Evgeni Malkin, even though he has full control of the situation with a no-movement clause in the final season of his contract. There is talk of Minnesota General Manager Bill Guerin looking to make another major trade and wondering if Russian Kirill Kaprizov can help convince Malkin to join the Wild for a playoff run. If Malkin allows it, expect him to move before the trade deadline will move.”
The idea of Kaprizov and Malkin on the same team is wild (pun intended). Two Russian superstars teaming up right after the team added arguably the best defenseman in the NHL in Quinn Hughes? It would be hard to imagine the Wild not becoming an instant Stanley Cup contender.
