Tristan Jarry hasn’t even played a game for the Edmonton Oil Companiesbut his new goaltending equipment is already getting attention, making it clear that this trade wasn’t exactly a last-minute deal. While the pads were done just minutes after the trade was announced (which likely means sooner), the post-teasing of his new gear at least suggests he’s excited to get started and committed to the team.
New photos of Vaughn custom sports shows off Jarry’s Oilers-themed gear. The video accompanying the post suggests that the person who made the equipment wasn’t the least bit surprised when news came that the transaction was official. It’s almost as if he and a few others knew something…
The new gear features a strong blue base with the Oilers’ orange stripes, offering a simple, updated look that complements the team’s style. Vaughn’s VX1 logo is all over the pads, blocker and catcher.
The timing of this revelation is crucial. Edmonton literally held a media availability a few hours before the pads were shown on social media. The designer was already working on them or had them going when the second things were done. Rumor has it that Jarry will be in net on Saturday night when the Oilers take on the Toronto Maple Leafs. It is unclear whether his new equipment will be approved in time for that game.
The Oilers had been working on this Jarry deal for a while
Elliotte Friedman reports that Jarry may have been ready to leave the Penguins, and he was most excited about it opportunity to go to the Oilers. “If he was going to leave Pittsburgh, this was a place he would love to go,” the NHL insider said.
He added that the idea of this trade had been in the works for some time. He explained:
“… what held it back initially was that they couldn’t make it work financially. The Penguins had made it very clear that they were not going to keep any money on Jarry and so Edmonton was faced with the prospect that they would have to make some roster operations to make this happen. Ideally, they wanted to pair Jarry with Skinner, not trade Skinner for him. But what kind of happened was that Edmonton realized that they wanted to make this deal with the salary caps, they would have to make the One of the things that has changed in recent days is that “Pittsburgh initially wasn’t going to acquire Kulak and now they did, so it ended up in a situation where Edmonton and Pittsburgh could find a way to make the money work.”
Tom Gazzola of Edmonton Sports Talk radio said both Jarry and Stuart Skinner were not opposed to a fresh start.
General Manager Stan Bowman told the media on Friday: “We have been watching him closely and we have been impressed with his performance over the course of his career.” In other words, the Oilers had explored this idea and it could be that Jarry was aware of it and was tipped off that a deal was on the way.
Maybe the Oilers were too, since much was made about the extra-long hugs between Skinner and Calvin Pickard.
Fans went crazy when they saw Vaughn’s post on social media. Many saw it as a signal that he had been aware of the profession for some time. Others wonder if he’s just super excited about making it to Edmonton, and the goalie gear was a top priority.
In short, Jarry’s new gear is more than just a new look. It shows that he is serious. Ultimately, it’s all about how he plays. Tristan Jarry is an Oiler and he is ready for a fresh start.
