Ro Khanna would not be a person’s idea of a likely ally of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene.
The five-year-old Democrat, who represents the Silicon Valley in California, joined any other Democrat to strip Greene from her committee assignments just four years ago. But on Wednesday, Khanna was the only democrat who participated in a press conference with Greene and Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) Add to a crowd of survivors of the abuse of Jeffrey Epstein.
Khanna is one of the two main sponsors of the request for dismissal to release files with regard to Epstein’s Criminal Sex Trafficking Operations.
So far, two other Republicans have joined the dismissal version of Massie and Khanna. If it gets enough signatures, Khanna and Massie can force a mood and bypass the attempts by house speaker Mike Johnson to block the release.
The day before the press conference, The independent Briefly spoke with Khanna in his office to discuss why he decided to work with Massie on this subject.
“How can we do big things, such as offering people from health care and childcare and education if people do not trust the government?” he said. “If people think that the government only operates for the rich and powerful, or that the government is being checked by special interests?
“So restoring trust in the government is the key to the argument that the government can be a power for the lives of people.”
Khanna is a progressive democrat that Bernie Sanders endorsed in the Democratic Presidential Primary 2020. He came up early for a cease -the Fires in Gaza and supports fiery Medicare for everyone. For him it goes on a bottom of Epstein and the cover that could act impunity to restore trust in the government.
But for Khanna it is also about reaching Trump voters where they are and not to see the Democratic party as one who simply protects the status quo, but as one who reforms it.
“The second is that many people voted for nihilism on Trump, out of desperation,” he said. “They wanted to burn it all, tear it all, and they thought this government was corrupted, corrupted and only worked for the rich and powerful.”
Trump and house speaker Mike Johnson have taken extraordinary measures to prevent the request for dismissal. Shortly after the interview, the House Oversight Committee, on which Khanna is located, released 30,000 pages with information regarding Epstein.
On Wednesday, Trump again called the Epstein files ‘a Democratic Hoax’. But Khanna insists that the Epstein research is not a party.
“I am not making this a problem that Anti Trump is, I make this a problem that stands for survivors, that protects the American children who stand up for trust in the government,” said Khanna.
Khanna indeed pointed out how many commentators and chosen officials in the Maga-wing of the Republican Party have pronounced anger since the FBI and the Ministry of Justice have released her two-page memo who said that Epstein was probably killed in prison and that there was no ‘client list’.
“Can you think of another problem where you had prominent people – prominent Maga supporters breaking with Trump?” he said.
The urge on Epstein comes because many democratic voters want to see their chosen leaders fight against Trump and Republicans. But Khanna said how to fight Democrats is so important as fighting in herself.
“All the basis that I agree with, they say” fight, fight, fight, “he said.” But it’s not fighting to lose. It fights Slim, fights strategically, fights in a way that will help us build a majority. “
Despite the fact that he is a progressive democrat that represents part of the country that houses several of the richest companies and some of the highest earners, Khanna tried to go into places where Democrats have ever passed. Indeed, after Trump’s victory, he visited Ohio and even met JD Vance.
But Khanna said he was disappointed in his fellow alumnus of Yale Law School, with whom he has spared on X, about racism against Indian Americans in view of the fact that Vance-female USHA and his parents-in-law are Indian-American.
“He could have contributed to the country in a constructive way, in my opinion, to Ohio,” he said about Vance. “And instead he opted for his own political progress, to adapt to Donald Trump, who is interested in distributing us, who demonizes immigrants like the parents of his own wife, who gives tax benefits to the rich and do nothing for the working and middle class that he is struggling.”
Trump and Vance working class Americans sell good goods for Khanna.
“Donald Trump took the rhetoric of FDR, anyway? Talking about forgotten men and women and such. And then decided to deliver the economic royalist,” he said in reference to President Franklin Delano Roosevelt of four years, who led the nation out of the great depression and a large part of the Second World War.
But Democrats have a few chances on the horizon. In 14 months, voters will have the opportunity to choose the Democrats to control the House of Representatives instead of Republicans.
