Everything is now quiet on the Ryder Cup Front. After weeks and months of almost constant discourse about captains, Captain’s Picks, playing captains, even vice captains, it is suddenly. . . Quite quiet. But there are only 24 days until the opening session of Foursomes in Bethpage Black, and those days will not be unused.
Both teams will even be busy – and in the case of the Americans, busier than normal.
Although many American players enjoy some time from the competition, at least 10 of them will be in Napa on the ProCore Championship next week. Often an event strictly for players who lower the FedEx Cup-Herfstpunt list lower, heavy Hitters will push a number of those lower players out of the field when they come together for a pre-cup binding.
Almost every American is spoken, with the following players in the field: Scottie Scheffler, Russell Henley, Patrick Cantlay, Justin Thomas, Harris English, JJ Spaun, Sam Burns, Collin Morikawa, Ben Griffin and Cameron Young. Xander Schauffele is the lonely man who is eligible by not being in the field yet; His involvement (or not) will come into the picture in the coming days. As a Liv golfer, Bryson Deschambeau is not eligible to enter the field.
There are also three vice-captains that will be in the field above. It would not be surprising to see two teammates grouped in addition to one Van Brandt Snedeker, Webb Simpson and Gary Woodland. (Snedeker will also be looking to sharpen his own CaptainCy insight while he prepares for his role as the man who leads the American side at the Presidents Cup next year).
About 5000 miles away – in an equally spark plug – Locale – Team Europe is also released. Almost the entire team will be on site at the BMW PGA championship, the most important event on the DP World Tour schedule, held in Wentworth Club just outside of London. It will be a full field, with a handful of Nonryder-Cuppers from the PGA Tour and Liv Golf who participate, including Corey Conners, Hideki Matsuyama, Wyndham Clark, Brooks Koepka, Billy Horschel and Patrick Reed.
Rory McIlroy will have the shortest living -working traffic of the Ryder Cuppers; He has built a house nearby. Sepp Straka is the only euro teammate who is not yet in the field. But his presence will be filled by a few captains. Vice -captain Francesco Molinari will perform in Wentworth, and that also applies to Captain Luke Donald. Both were actually accompanied by the Irish Open this week.
The third vice captain of the euro in the field in Wentworth is the latter called: Sweden’s Alex Noren, who admitted that he was surprised to earn that honor. “It was a big shock when I found out; I didn’t expect it at all,” Noren told the Associated Press. “I want to bring the team room a good posture. Bring some knowledge. I’ve been to this game for a long time.”
Norwegian’s surprise, although endearing, speaks to an unspoken element of these two quasi-team camps: the field is also filled by Ryder Cup Snubs. Donald made his latest selections public on Labor Day, just for many of those agreed players personally.
Norwegians, for example, made a late push to be in the team and won the British Masters two weeks ago. Nicolai Hojgaard, who was in the 2023 team in Rome, recently plays better than his Nu-Goder Cupper Broer, Rasmus. After he had been beaten, Sergio Garcia did not want to be close to a pre-good Cup team Mingling, so he was open of this week’s Irish.
Donald’s countrymen, Harry Hall, Marco Penge and Aaron Rai have all made Valiant runs this summer. (Hall is now in 11th place in the world, according to Datagolf.) More recently, Matt Wallace was brought to tears after he had not done completely enough to make the schedule. Although there seems to be no bad blood between them and Donald, that crew will undoubtedly face a part of the music, because a team dinner is planned for next week.
Something similar is likely to take place for Americans such as Maverick McNealy and Andrew Novak, two players who considered many as RC-worthy on different points in the year. They are both registered for the NAPA event and will certainly notice how many Ryder Cup conversation the site of an event that normally does not get this attention. (The Procore 2023 only had two Ryder cuppers.)
