Former Indian selector Saba Karim Has the recording of veteran Rohit Sharma in India’s team for the next three-match ODI series against Australia, starting on October 19. The BCCI announced the 15-person team and marked Rohit’s return to the team for the first time since India’s 2025 Champions Trophy Triumph.

The opener, however, is fired from the tasks of the captain, appointed as the new skipper with Shubman Gill. Karim asked Rohit’s place in the team, given his removal of Captainincy, which suggests that the selectors may not consider him for the ODI World Cup 2027. He also described the decision as abrupt and unnecessary.

“If you didn’t make him the captain, why do you still keep it in the team? It clearly shows that you don’t see him as part of the future, that he will not be there for the World Cup 2027. In that case you should not hold a player in the team that you do not see as part of your plans for 2027. It was not necessary,” said Karim on Kadak.

The former cricket player also noted that Gill could become the all-format captain of India in the next home season and recognize the potential of the 25-year-old to take on the role. In the meantime, the Indian test captain returns to action on Friday 10 October, which leads India in the second test of the two-match series against the West Indies in the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

“You have elevated it and even made the vice-captain in T20s. Now that you have made it, the thought is that very quickly, perhaps by the following season, we will see that Shubman Gill leads in all three formats. Looking at this way, their thinking seems Corrig. Odis, but yes, he has the possibilities to become captain,” said Karim.
