Why I Skip Black Friday (and What I Do Instead)

Why I Skip Black Friday (and What I Do Instead)

5 minutes, 55 seconds Read

Sharing is caring!

Everyone else is shouting “50% OFF!” and I’m like… no thanks.

This season is not about buying more. It’s about making you feel better.

Look, I get it. Black Friday is the Super Bowl of retail.

It’s the moment when every brand brings out its biggest discount, its most eye-catching banner, and its most urgent countdown timer.

ONLY 3 HOURS LEFT!
BIGGEST SALE OF THE YEAR!
You will regret missing this!

And honestly? I’m already exhausted just typing that.

Remember when I told you I was Done performing?

I wrote about it in September why I disappeared for five months.

About how burned out I was by the relentless pursuit of algorithmic approval.

And then return to what really matters: real connection over optimization theater.

Well, guess what? Black Friday is the ultimate optimization theater.

It’s the Olympics of manufactured urgency, the epitome of “do this because everyone else is doing it.”

And after spending the past few months rediscovering what truly brings me joy (spoiler: it’s not discount code chaos), I’ve decided to postpone this one.

What Black Friday has become (and why I’m not for it)

Let’s be honest about what Black Friday looks like in terms of gut health:

→ Brands offering “50% off” on products they marked up by 50% the week before
→ Email inboxes explode with subject lines that all flow into each other
→ Manufactured scarcity of digital products that literally cannot be sold out
→ Everyone shouts louder to be heard, above all others who shout louder

It’s the antithesis of everything I rebuilt this space for.

I didn’t step away from the performance of it all for five months just to dive right into the biggest performance weekend of the year.

The thing is, I really love this time of year.

Not the commercialized frenzy part, but the real togetherness.

The cooking. And decorate. Music. And slow it down (or at least try).

The reflection. And time spent in the deep silence (usually with family, pets and succulents – ha!)

So while everyone else is planning their “biggest sale ever,” I’m opting for something different.

I choose peace over chaos.
Peace over panic.
Intentionality over urgency.

And I invite you to do the same.

This is not about judgment

Listen, if you see a Black Friday deal that really works for you – something you’ve been meaning to buy, from a brand you already love – by all means grab it. [Spoiler alert: I will likely, too.]

I’m not here to moralize about shopping.

I’m just saying: don’t do that to have to join in the frenzy of doing the holidays “right.”

You can opt out of the overwhelm.

What this season looks like A brave girl

Instead of discounts, urgency, and spending time creating a huge holiday shopping guide (as I have done in the past), I’ll focus on this:

Real value over perceived savings.

I already do this, 24/7 – 365 days a year Ultimate product guide to gut health.

Everything you want and need is already there.

The products, information, discounts, real conversations: it’s all available, no countdown timer required.

And if you REALLY want to see holiday 2025 sales, go to this tab via the Ultimate Gut Health Product Guide > “🌲Holiday ’25.”

Thoughtful recommendations instead of sales push.

Remember how I said I test products properly: at least three experiences before I even consider sharing them?

That continues.

If I tell you something, it’s because it actually works, not because I have a hidden agenda that I need to push through during BF/CM weekend.

Connection over conversion.

I’d rather hear what’s actually stressing you out about the holidays (gut health or otherwise) than convince you to buy something you might not need.

Holiday survival over holiday perfection.

Speaking of which, I’m putting together something actually helpful to help you get through the next few weeks without destroying your feelings.

I will start working from December 1st 12 [Gutsy] Days of giving.

If you are on the Rated-G email listyou will receive them there.

12 days of giving with a brave girl agutsygirl.com

No purchase required. No Black Friday madness. Just practical, useful things that you can actually use.

The Brands Worth Mentioning (Because They’re That Good)

Look, I work with some brands that I really love. And yes, some of them Are running Black Friday/Cyber Monday and/or general holiday sales.

Like Herbal Facial Food (which is what I was told shall have a BFCM deal)

Or LUMEBOX (which is 50% discount for BFCM)

But here’s the difference: I recommend them because they’ve earned a place in my kitchen and my routine.

For me personally, I Love when brands tell me about their biggest deals of the year so that I can stock up things I already use.

These are the kinds of brands I mention during the holidays, not because they’re discounted, but because they are worth it.

What I refuse to do, however, is tell you about a daily offer of A brave girl and/or my diary line and/or supplement line 24/7 during this season.

I also refuse to lump together a thousand offers, most of which I have made never tried – just because I could.

It’s not fun for me. And it’s not fun for you. If you NEED the stuff, you will find it.

Instead, I’ll just do ONE thing: you will find it HERE.

Take it if you like need It. If you do, don’t do it not.

Only ONE offer.

My top 3 sold products – in one.

Usually $443.

This season >>> only $50.

What I hope you get out of this

You don’t need another email yelling at you about limited time offers.

Instead, permission to breathe.

You need reminder that opting out of the chaos doesn't mean you're missing out.

You need space to focus on what really matters – your health, your peace of mind, your real life – instead of getting caught up in someone else’s sales strategy.

So this is what I offer in lieu of a discount: calm.

Practical tools. Thoughtful recommendations. Real support. A corner of the internet that doesn’t try to create urgency.

Is it as flashy as “70% OFF EVERYTHING!”? No.

Is it more in line with why I do this work in the first place? Absolute.

Skip the chaos. Instead, feed your gut.

This holiday season, A brave girl is getting back to what we do best: cutting through the noise and focusing on what really works.

No manufactured urgency.
No flash sales that disappear at midnight.
Just real gut health support, served with a dash of common sense.

And when you’re ready to just feeling that calmness, I’ve already created something that you can download, for free now.

>>> From a brave girl Holiday Survival Checklist

If Black Friday emails are flooding your inbox (let’s face it, they will), you have full permission to delete them and hang out here instead.

Peace over panic, always.

S.K.H

P.S If you know someone who is already feeling overwhelmed by the holiday noise, send them this. Sometimes the best gift is the permission to unsubscribe.
