When it comes to golf swing, there are quite a few components that have to work together to function properly. And if even one of them is only one bit Out, it can destroy the whole thing.
You probably know (and concentrate) on some of the most important. Clubpad. Face corner. Shoulder turn. You get the photo. Hip Sway, however, is one that is just as important – but it is often overlooked.
So what makes Hip Sway so crucial for the swing? And how can you ensure that you do it correctly? Golfetc’s director of teaching quality Josh Troyer explains below.
Why hipbroom is important
If you are serious about improving your golf swing, it might be time to look closer to something that most amateur golfers overlook: Hip Sway. The reason that Hip Sway is so important is that it plays a major role in where the low point is in your swing. If you are wrong, this can have disastrous effects on the quality of your strike.
Low-Point control-where the club in your swing soil is an important key to consistent ball that stands out. According to Troyer, the best players move their hips about 6.5 centimeters to the target of the top of the backswing to the finish position.
“The best players go from 0.3 inch at the top of the swing to 3.1 inches to [the target] By the time they struck, up to 6.5 inches by the time they end, “says Troyer.
That forward shift of the hips helps to get the low point if you wave in the right place at Impact. Players who do not make this step consistently struggle with contact, hit the ball or catch it thin.
Swing direction is also influenced by hip swing. It can even be a huge reason that golfers struggle with a swing that is too far away.
“If you do not move your hips from the top of the swing all the way in the follow-through, you will open your turns faster than they should,” says Troyer. “That’s when the club goes too far inside.”
But make sure you don’t overdo it, because if you do that, you will eventually start to swing too far to go outside, which can lead to your own problems. Chief of them: struggle to create solid contact from the rough.
From the thick stuff it is important that you increase your perspective and hit the ball. But if you have a swing that is too far to go out, you usually heel the swing out, so that the club head can be entangled in the rough before the impact.
“Tour players, often don’t know why they are doing things – they are just really good at Golf,” says Troyer. “But when you start to understand the dynamics, it all starts to be logical.”
So, the next time you notice that you are struggling with low-point control or swing direction, check your hip swing. Chances are that repairing a better ball-port and more consistent game on the course.
