Defensive contribution points (DefCon/DC) are the talk of the town in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) this season.
Of the top ten top scoring defensemen in FPL in 2025/2026 so far, eight have collected at least six DefCon points.
Most leading midfielders have also reached the ‘DC’ threshold at least once.
Before the start of the season, most of our research focused on looking at the underlying defensive numbers from 2024/2025. James Tarkowski (£5.5 million) and Moses Caicedo (£5.9m) were among the names that stood out as potential beneficiaries, and this was reflected in the first eight Gameweeks of this campaign.
But could DefCons be a bigger problem than we thought? Gabriel Magalhaes (£6.4m) has already surpassed the number he would have achieved in 2024/2025. The number of defensemen reaching the DefCon threshold in more than 50% of matches has also increased.
With that in mind we thought we would delve into the Members area to see if the signs point to 2025/26 being a big campaign for DefCon points.
DEFCON POINTS PER SEASON
Below, we’ve charted the defenders and midfielders’ DefCon points for each of the eight most recent seasons, which goes back as far as our data goes.
We were converted from 2018/19 to 2024/25 the underlying defensive data in tangible FPL points.
For 2025/26, we’re using actual FPL points for DefCon – and we’ve projected the end of the campaign based on current returns after eight gameweeks (338 for defenders, 202 for midfielders).
