Why don’t you fit well?

Why don’t you fit well?

September 12, 2025

Asking candidates why we should not hire them, a remarkable filter has proven.

We are now hiring for a peculiar role of Educator and have received 107 applications. We have not (deliberately) hired a recruiter, so I read all From them. One thing stood out.

Whynot You fit well

Us application form consists of three questions:

  1. Why do you fit well?

  2. Why don’t you fit well?

  3. Are there any questions for us?

Surprisingly, the question that helps to see our potential similarities is the most, the second – Why don’t you fit well?

It appears that very few people can answer this question in a thoughtful, sincere and empathetic way.

Here is a typical answer:

Why don’t you fit well?

I admit that I have not yet used Fibery extensively. After reading your article about Fibery101, however, I am enthusiastic about the potential – and I am no stranger to platforms for work management. In earlier roles I have worked with tools such as Salesforce, Servicenow and Trello to organize workflows and to stimulate cooperation.

<...>

These tools have tightened my ability to quickly learn new systems and to think on modular, flexible ways, skills that closely match Fibery’s approach and the type of mentality needed to lead others through the possibilities.

Note how the first sentence is a half -hearted attempt to answer the question, and the rest is themselves to advertise. A few people went even further than that:

Why don’t you fit well?

I just can’t fit well if I am not selected after an interview and I would like to learn to improve.

People can only radiate self -confidence, even if they pushed otherwise. I also think that chatgpt, unlike other questions, is quite difficult to call about this.

Why don’t you fit well

For comparison, here is someone we finally interviewed:

Why don’t you fit well?

I am a chronic reflection. This makes my job better, but also means that I am sometimes planning the perfect approach for longer than it would be just to do … I work on faster shipping, but I need teammates to occasionally “to tell, send it.”

<...>

I have never had a lot of solo. Larger reach than my previous performances, certainly. I am enthusiastic about it, but being honest about the step.

Here is another empathetic answer that led to an interview:

Why don’t you fit well?

Although I have a great experience in creating different types of training materials, all my experience was performed in Russian. I speak English at the level of B2/C1 (but I don’t have a valid certificate), but it would still be a new thing for me to try.

<...>

I am also not a coder (I have studied the basis of Python, Pascal and Macroses for MS Office, but never used it in real projects).

In the beginning I had doubts about how strong the correlation between the answer to this question and our cultural fit is. So I invited a few candidates for interviews despite their meh answers if the rest of their request was strong. None of them turned out to be people with whom we wanted to work.

On the other hand, from the people who answered carefully and sincerely, none of them was finally rejected because of a culture mermatch.

Everyone has their limitations and I learn to teach them earlier than later. We do our best to be open about ours in the Job description And elsewhere, And expect the same from our future teammates.

You are not for everyone. We are not for everyone. That’s fine.
