President Donald Trump of the United States is accused of a “new revenge act” against former American vice-president Kamala Harris after withdrawing her protection of the secret service.
The Secret Service of the United States is a federal law enforcement agency within the Department of Homeland Security. The role is to offer protection to American political leaders, their families and other relevant people such as visiting heads of state.
Trump sent a signed memo that Homeland Security Secretary Kristi ordered to “terminate all security -related procedures that were previously authorized by Executive Memorandum, over those legally required” for Harris from 1 September, CNN reported.
It occurs on Harris, who will start a book tour of 15 cities next month for her memoirs, 107 days, about her failed presidential run.
She was the democratic candidate for 107 days after Biden withdrew from the presidential race of 2024 in the midst of concern about his cognitive health that followed A disastrous debate against Trump.

How long do our vice-presidents get protection for secret services?

Usually the secret service protects vice-presidents for six months after they have left the office. In the case of Harris, that period ended on July 21.
Former US President Joe Biden, however, extended the protection of Harris by a year – until January 2026 – before he left the office at the beginning of this year.

Biden and his wife Jill get protection for life under a federal law that covers former presidents and their spouses.

Has Trump withdrawn the protection for someone else?

Since he took office in January, Trump has taken similar measures against a long list of his observed enemies and political opponents.
Trump has withdrawn the protection for former national security adviser John Bolton, former State Secretary Mike Pompeo and former top -american military officer Mark Milley.

In March he drew government institutions from Biden’s son Hunter and daughter Ashley and said it was “ridiculous” that Hunter Biden had a security detail of a maximum of 18 people.

He has also stripped other officials and former officials – including Biden himself – of their safety statement to receive sensitive information.

After his first term of office from 2017 to 2021, Trump issued an order with an extension of six months of protecting secret services to all four of his adult children and three senior officials of the administration.

How did Democrats respond?

The Harris office has confirmed the move.
“The vice -president is grateful to the secret service of the United States for their professionalism, dedication and relentless dedication to safety,” said Kirsten Allen, a senior adviser of Harris, in a statement.
Democrats gathered behind Harris during the move, especially in California, where she previously served as a senator.

Mayor Karen Bass, Los Angeles, said that it was “a different act of revenge after a long list of political retribution” by Trump, according to a statement reported by American media.

“This endangers the former vice president and I am looking forward to working with the governor to ensure that vice president Harris is safe in Los Angeles.”
The US Senator Adam Schiff, a Californian Democrat and Frequent Trump critic, called the action “another dangerous memory that there is no agenda more important for Donald Trump than retribution”.
