The unusual kick-off for Sunday’s Premier League match between Manchester United and Crystal Palace has finally been cleared up.
United wants to put things right
After a promising run of form that saw them go five games unbeaten, United were brutally brought down to earth on Monday evening when they lost 1-0 to Everton.
Everton played much of the match with ten men, after Idrissa Gueye was sent off within fourteen minutes for hitting his teammate Michael Keane.
But despite the numerical disadvantage, the Toffees scored first, through Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. The midfielder curled the ball into the back of the net, beyond the reach of Senne Lammens, who could not get strong enough on this effort.
United put in a tepid performance and were unable to break Everton’s stubborn and compact defensive shape.
The Red Devils are now winless in their last three Premier League outings, having drawn against Nottingham Forest and Tottenham Hotspur before the defeat to Everton.
Things don’t get any easier for Ruben Amorim and his players as they face Palace at Selhurst Park on Sunday. But the match was due to start at the unusual time of 12:00 GMT.
Kick-off Palace vs. United explained
Normally the matches are played on Sunday at 2:00 PM GMT before the weekend’s match starts at 4:30 PM GMT.
Palace vs. United were originally selected by TNT Sports for live coverage and their regular 12:30 GMT slot on Saturday.
However, due to Palace’s commitments in the UEFA Europa Conference League on Thursday, the kick-off time was brought forward. Palace were defeated 2-1 by Strasbourg at the Stade de la Meinau.
The Premier League has a minimum period of 60 hours between matches. Moving the match to Sunday at 12:00 GMT will give Oliver Glasner’s side a 64-hour recovery period.
Three of the subsequent Premier League matches (Aston Villa vs. Wolves, Nottingham Forest vs. Brighton and West Ham vs. Liverpool) have therefore been postponed until 14:05 GMT to avoid any possible overlap.
